That article was kind of misleading. The driver didn't hit the bear while trying to avoid the moose; she managed to stop the car completely before hitting the moose, drove on afterwards, albeit slowly. Then, a few minutes later, the bear came out of the woods, got hit by the car and ran off (most likely with internal injuries).

A small piece of advice, though: If you should, somehow, manage to end up in a situation where you have to choose between hitting a moose or hitting a bear, go for the bear. The moose will go over the hood of your car, and then crash with full force into your windscreen. The bear has its center of weight a lot lower, hence it'll just smash your car - not your head and torso.
