While my addiction to The Guild is nothing like TheJoe's, it is a VERY fun game. Play as a missionary or whatever or a thief. Tons of fun.

Thief? I've always liked the thief/rogue style in D&D and other games (like Fallout). Maybe I will give it a try some day...I've already got too many games to play. :-)

Thief is probably the most fun profession as far as actually playing the profession goes. Most interaction from the player (the rest are mostly management sims where you just say what to make).

That being said, the real fun of the game comes from politics and the like.
I used to have the Guild 2 Renaissance, I hated it and gave it to a charity shop, i pity who-ever buys it.
I just got back into the Guild and I need a few things answered:
-Can i play this windowed even though it's not an option?
-How can I make more money as thief? I'm in 2nd place technically.
-Any way I can deal with those pesky guards?
Rohan, I never played Thief extensively, I just had it has a secondary profession after about 100 years of my dynasty (all of this was one night, too) and I had a Master Crafter take care of it for me. Sorry.

As for windowed mode, you could try the GOGTHEGUILDGOLD registry entries to see if you can coax it into windowed from there, but as far as I know, no.
I recently bought the Guild 2.

It's okay. Pretty addicting, but not as great of a "business" game as I had hoped.

But DEAR GOD, they should change to title to "Back and forth cart simulator"

Why the hell didn't they implement an auto cart travel system? All I am doing it clicking on them damn carts sending them back and forth all the time!

Have not played the game for ages, but I remember, that you can easily et up an auto route for each cart.

You can send them to unload and return, but this is a one time thing. You have to load them and again tell them where to go to over and over again. There is no auto route.

Ah, right... it was The Guild 1, where you can set this up. I was in the official developer Board just right now and there is nothing implemented, but there are AI Script for this included in the game but not activated.

Maybe there is a modification somewhere? :)

What I usually do is just send them out to pickpocket non-stop until they are all pretty skilled. Then look at which of your competitors are above you/around you, send your guys out to case, and rob one of their properties. Then switch everyone back to pickpocket while you do more research.

Thief has the most micromanagement, probably.

My most recent thief play today:
-Married a wife, she died the following year, but left me 7 different properties that sold for 123k pounds.
-Bought out a local thieves guild.
-Currently already a Count in my 44 year run so far. Also have a palace and farther ahead of all of my competitors.
-Attempting to hijack a Robber building since the pricks wont sell.

Get into the council and make Cannon Towers legal if they're not already and bring hell on that robber's hideout. Keep firing until the value of the place is decreased ;)
