I'm still in awe and curious as to what exactly was running through the producers and/or video editors heads to actually think this was a wise idea...

Not only did they blatantly lie to the viewers, not only was the clip they provided was a bad forgery, but they did it on a damn video game too. If this doesn't blow up in their faces in a spectacular manner, and seems it already is in progress of doing so although the news seems to be circulating around the game related community as for now, I will have no faith in this world left... ;]
Personally I'm torn between facepalming and being glad that the world can sometimes be so ridiculously hilarious.

Maybe they should try doing a documentary on last year's Peru mining incident using blurry Minecraft footage next.

Most likely some kid was told to find footage on the IRA, he went to Youtube, saw that clip, found it legit and submitted it. No-one in the team had ever played ArmA and they all kind of just trusted him, attributing the pixelation to poor cameras of back-in-the-day. Hey, I've seen footage of far worse quality in documentaries.

So it is a human mistake, but still very facepalm-worthy.

Taleroth: Oh man, a lazy intern is going to get fired over this.
No, I bet the intern that got fired is the one that said, 'I don't think that's real, it kinda looks like a video game.'

Is there any doubt that trust in the media is at historic lows?

That would be quite awesome, wouldn't it? someone hacks away at a stone block and a shitload of gravel falls in?

This made me chuckle somewhat. :)
Incredible. It's the most hilarious stuff I have read in quite some time. This reminds me: Polish gaming magazine CD-Action actually commented on one of the screenshots of ArmA 2 in a preview that it looks like a war documentary. I really hope the author of that comment read about the ITV incident. Must have had the biggest laughs of his life.

On the Greece stuff: No comment.
