Bloodygoodgames: ( most products here are German or Belgian - not that I'm complaining, as the quality is superb :).
Both countries with successful austerity measures under their belt. Austerity is literally like going on a died to loose weight. If you ever tried it, you will know how impossible it seems. But once it is over successfully, you will start to resent people who complain about "how impossible it is" because you know it isn't impossible and that those fat slobs are just not willing to leave their own zone of comfortability.

Edit:

Oh, and this weekend I got a job offer for working in Ireland. So it can't be that bad over there, if they even consider foreign nationals. (I probably won't take it, as I does not fit into my plans right now. But they kept me in their rolodex and call me again next year if a similar position opens)

Bloodygoodgames: BTW, if I was you I'd stay in Australia and get experience there first. It's one of the few countries not having massive economic issues - Europe is just about bankrupt and there are NO jobs. Just about anywhere.

jamyskis: I worked at a studio for two years and of the roughly 30 people I worked with when I started, only two of them were there when I quit.
So in other words, it's not how I said, it's a lot worse.
