The commercial for this thing acts like it's the second coming of Christ.

Anyway, Macs aren't an option for me as a PC gamer. I guess if I had the money for a bonus laptop I might consider it, but then again probably not because I know PCs in and out. On top of that everyone I know with an Apple product like an iPhone or iPod eventually has massive problems with it and can't do anything about it because of the closed nature of it.

So no thanks.

If I'll ever buy this,

I'd make the duo: motherfucking desktop PC for games + MacBook Air 4 for portability. ;)

Or trio, with an added iPhone 4 as my mobile phone.
But... there's no Step 3!

ah, thanks for the link. never got to see that.

no problem, I don't remember ever seeing it either back when it originally came out. The computer itself intrigued me though. It looked a lot cooler than the sterile white boxes of PC.
I present you the MacBook Air 4 prices here in Brazil:

11-inch : 64GB - US $999 = Brazil $1,872

11-inch : 128GB - US $1,199 = Brazil $2,223

13-inch : 128GB - US $1,299 = Brazil $2,692

13-inch : 256GB - US $1,599 = Brazil $3,335 ... Yes, that is 3.335 USD. With the money of that last one I can build a dream PC desktop, importing all the parts I'd ever want.

wpegg: and they will attempt to lock you in to their products far more aggressively than even microsoft.

If you want to be an apple fanboi then you will not mind. However I will most certainly not be buying an apple product again.
What do you meant by lock me on? I'm not updated on Apple's practices and DRM, sorry.

I've never owned any Apple product, really, not even the cheapest of the iPods; so I guess I'm immune to the "Apple fanboy virus".

If and when I buy a product it's because I like the product, not because "Oh it's Apple". This product is quite portable and with an Nvidia 320M (although it doesn't have an HDMI), that's why I liked it.

Darling_Jimmy: I'll wait a little longer until they turn it into a touch screen tablet; an iPad Pro, if you will.
Hmm iPad doesn't strike with me... I don't like waving my hands around like an ass**** for 4h-8h.

I prefer to have a pair: a thin laptop/netbook having my hands over its keyboard (speed is the word) and having the power of just move/point my fingers at an iPhone.

And that's another reason I got interested in the Apple platform just recently, because I could make a duo with the iPhone 4. And thus, evaluate if the "Apple/Mac experience" is worth enough to me, or not.
avatar
Gersen: The real question with Apple is not why not, but why?

Do you really need an ultra-thin IO ports impaired laptop when a much cheaper normal laptop would probably do as well if not better ? Are the extra bragging points you will get really worth the price difference ?
Bragging points? I'm not that kind of person. ;)

But I get your point, yeah the price difference might me absurd between the two platforms, Mac and PC.
And that depends also in which country you're based on, for example here in Brazil we have the most overpriced iPod of all the countries in the world. So as I said in the original post, the problem to me is Apple's pricing.

One thing you have to admit: I doubt you didn't drool at watching the size of this thing. Portability, man.

Kingoftherings: I'm guessing iMovie is way easier for someone like me who has no interest at all in editing videos to pick up and use than Sony Vegas.

I really don't care about any of that stuff, so something that's easy to use is more valuable than buying a professional suite and not having a clue how to use it.
In this point I have to agree.

IF, IF I would buy a Mac... I wouldn't care about these softwares, because I wouldn't use them professionally. If it has the basics to get the job done (If I ever need to use them), then it's fine.

Also, dual boot.

Déjà vu! Are you repeating yourself for dramatic effect or is it a case of the crazies? :p
Anyway, I didn't respond the first time because I assumed the answer is obvious: Bluetooth or USB peripherals.

It isn't needed to quote all that, please.

I'm only having a fight with this damn stupid forum software, that's it.

I thought my post was edited and then posted a new one to send the correct reply flags to you guys, only because I want know more about others opinions on using a Mac as I personally never owned one (so most things of the patform aren't obvious to me). ;)

I've used them before, but never owned one. A Macbook Pro was the last thing I tried. Apple uses nice hardware, so I can't fault them for that.

OSX seems restrictive and frustrating, though. If you run OSX, you have to buy into the way Apple wants to do things. As a Windows and occasional Linux user, that just bothers me. OSX does feel like a very professional distribution of Linux, but it's pretty locked down in comparison.

I know a few lemming-like people who use Macs/OSX, and they REALLY like them, but they are casual computer users. If you just want to browse the net, write papers, and edit photos, OSX it will do that nicely...and hey, Steam even has games for OSX now, so that's cool, I guess.

When it comes down to do it, I just prefer Windows, especially 7. I don't see a point in dual booting, since it does everything I want it to do. You could run Windows 7 exclusively on a Mac, but what's the point in that? You're just overpaying for the hardware.

I'd actually say the opposite myself. OS X is ok, it's pretty much identical to windows, with just a different set of annoyances. The hardware on the other hand tends to be fairly inflexible.

The macbook air has been getting better, at launch it was a complete joke and while you still wouldn't want to take it travelling, it does seem fairly reasonable for home use in it's base configuration now, assuming you can put up with it's limitations like the small drive, propriety video output and no way of adding USB3.

However, if you start increasing the specs, 256GB drive, 4GB memory, copy of windows etc. then it quickly runs into Sony Vaio Z12/Z13 territory and that seems the better option.
