"Re: Steam DRM-free GOG.com version?
von Io » Mo 18. Jun 2012, 16:44

Hi Speakerpankratz,

though this is not completely impossible, the chances are very low there will be a release of TDE: Chains of Satinav on GOG.com anytime soon.

Cheers,
Io

Daedalic Entertainment
Community Manager"

From the same makers as The Whispered World. currently playing the german version.
Seems a pity that an english version is not coming to GOG anytime soon.

I wonder if it's not linked to the Dark Eye franchise as most of other Daedalic games are available DRM-free (e.g. Edna and the german version of Deponia on Gamersgate and Whispered world on GoG)
This is not really news - if there's something new about it's that they said it is not impossible. There was a lot of heated discussion on German forums about their decision to make Satinav's Chains a Steam-exclusive (and make even the retail version require it), but they were pretty clear that there would be no DRM-free version. As far as I know it's got nothing to do with the Dark Eye license or the localisation, but only with the publisher pushing the Steam-only concept, I believe also as a strategy to get a foot in the door and get their other games on Steam, which have been rejected by Valve in the past. Daedalic apologized and promised they'd still release other games DRM-free in the future but not this one.

well it did make me wonder about other daedelic games being released here or not.

also playing the german version, but since i got a new 22 inch screen, it started to crash on me everytime. thinking perhaps GOG could have provided a more stable version.
I'm still waiting for the three Drakensang games from the Dark Eye series to turn up.... although I've got the first two already, I had to import the second and can't find the third anywhere - I don't even know if it's in English! :P

As far as I know, they don't intend to do away with DRM-free releases in general, it's just this one game. They might still be willing to offer Edna or Deponia here, if GOG accepts them. But it's nothing I'm really excited about personally, since I didn't like the way TWW was released here without including the original language version.

I have Drakensang 1 and the River of Time on steam, I actually went to a bit of hassle getting them, had to trade/get gifted them because they aren't licensed to be sold outside NA.

Anyway, I was a tad disappointed, I was more reminded of Dragon Age Origins than Realms of Arkadia.
