pops117: The last time I tried DVDShrink had no problem with protected DVDs. The only thing it was unable to backup were badly scratched discs, but neither could it be recovered with any other software so...
DVDShrink hasn't been updated since 2004, so some discs using newer forms of protection can't be copied by it; if much of your collection was released prior to that or doesn't use incompatible protection you won't have many problems, of course.

I've had good results using DVDShrink to rip from damaged discs, so it's well worth a try if only as a last resort before throwing the disc away. ImgBurn and the like can achieve the same result but refuses to copy from protected movie DVDs; for all other disc types (including game DVDs with DRM) it can get the job done.
Well you could always Try DVD Shrink too, if you don't the quintessential .flac of DVD rips....

Damn my illiteracy, looks like it's already been mentioned. I don't use that anymore though, I use DVDfab because it is really versatile and allows you to basically choose the kind of rip you want, and it's got automatic settings for other systems like Mobiles, PS3s, XB360s, etc. Personally, it's my favorite so far.

Weird... Has there been any newer DRM attempts since CSS and Macrovision on DVDs? because DVDShrink hadn't had any issues with anything after 2004 up to now (got new DVDs not so long ago and well, it works). Maybe I was so stealthy (without knowing) as to avoid releases using newer protections, I don't know.
But I'm now into Blu-Rays anyway and DVDFab is doing great backups.
I use the handbrake program together with anydvd and it works like a charm for me
Fan of DVDShrink here.
