It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

I've just done a format and reinstall and have had to pull the Steam client down again. It's updating very slowly...I mean VERY slowly.

Wondering if anyone else here who uses Steam is experiencing the same thing right now?
It hasn't updated for me for a while.
Try running as administrator, that might help.
Everything is fine here, Steam works good.
Hmm....this isn't good. Won't let me fully install it until it updates.
I am as admin BTW, I don't know how to sign in NOT as admin.

And not to make this worst by advertising, LOL, but Numen is on special there for $2 - do you think that might have something to do with it?

What kind of internet connection are you using?
I've had that problem after a format. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way of speeding it up. I have noticed that someitmes it quits out without restarting itself. So double check that it's actually running.
It's always been like that. The first time you install Steam the updates are insanely slow for some reason.
I'm using broadband.

It's like they've only got one server for the entire world, without mirrors, that it's updating from. Like a 486 running in an abonded run-down shed.

It moves 1% every five minutes.

Just given myself a speed test

Ping 166ms
DownLoad 4.01mbps
Upload 0.14mbps

Rating about 20% slower than the average user in my area.

Edit

Ok, so it updated and now it konks out when go to log in. Is this typical?

Edit

For anyone else that Googles this up because they're having issues - reinstallation of Steam, after a fresh format, is a big pain in the butt. The software install goes quick, and then there's an intial update that counts up to about 26% before going into a 'Platform' update.

If successful the Platorm update will count up to a hundred percent.

I just kept canceling out and retrying to update until I got a fair connection.

Also, after all updates, first time signing in again will hang for a little bit before the software catches and actually connects after hitting 'login.'
