D-ROCK: Yeah I was. I should have mentioned Dark Alliance in the title.

SeduceMePlz: How does the second game compare to the first? I'm curious but haven't seen it for less than $40 used in game stores around here. Still have a PS2 hooked up for classic Tekken and Bushido Blade tourneys when my brothers visit, so I'm tempted to buy it sometimes.
It actually is quite similar. They change a few things. To me though the UI remains the same. Yeah I don't understand it being that price for 1. it's age. 2. It's used.

The same basic gameplay, but with some significant additions and improvements, such as an item enchantment system, more and different characters/classes, more optional areas and quests, etc.
It's been a while since I last played the first game, I don't remember if there's anything that's been made worse in 2 compared to the original.

Anyone who enjoyed the Dark Alliance games might also enjoy Champions of Norrath and its sequel, Champions: Return to Arms - set in the Everquest universe, they use the same game engine as the Dark Alliance games but with some nice improvements like 4-player co-op.

Think I'll have to go hunting for a copy of Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel now...

Yuck, I wouldn't want to. Dumb downed BG1 & 2. So, that's what happened to BG3, those bastards. Why can't consoles get a shitty port of a PC game. Instead they foist the console shit onto us PC gamers.

If you want to play them on a big screen, and if your TV and computer have HDMI, what's stopping you from playing the game on your TV.
I actually am borrowing a PS2 right this very moment and picked up a copy of BGDA and am making my way through it. I'm going for a sorceress melee fighter. I tried everything else back in the day.

I loved that game. It is perhaps the pinnacle of action RPGs for me. I love the feel of it. I have played it on all the systems it was available on. Now I just need part 2. I've never really played it before. It's still fairly expensive.

Sounds good then. I'll keep watch for a good deal on it. Thanks.

I thought those looked fun back in the days of the PS2, but I had the impression that they were multiplayer-only or required some kind of online registration or account (I recall the box seeming to indicate that a broadband connection was required to play the game). The Wikipedia entry mentions single-player tho... Is offline single-player supported? I'll watch for good deals on these, too, if that's the case.

I'm curious, too, but I've read that it's terrible even when approached with an open mind. If you try it, post and let us know your thoughts about it.

If you're referring to Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, then yes I've played it and enjoyed it.

Never got round to playing to second one though.

You can play them offline in single-player or with up to 3 other players in co-op (using a Multitap for more than 2 players) - no registration, account or anything like that required.

I don't know if the online multiplayer still works or not, my PS2 has never been connected to the internet :P

I played some of it once before, years ago - rented it from a video store. Didn't get very far as the disc was badly scratched and it kept freezing at an area transition. The basic gameplay seemed okay (imagine the Dark Alliance games, with guns instead of bows), but I didn't really play enough to judge it overall properly.

Used copies cost a bit more than I want to pay at the moment - shipping from the UK basically doubles the price.
