jefequeso: What are TBS games? I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to abbreviations :3

amok: Turn Based Strategy
ahh.

I love Turn Based Strategey. Even more than RTS. The thrill of games like X-COM and Baldur's Gate II just can't be beat by Zerg rushes :3.
I hate rts games, too fast for me, it always better to think what you do and then be destroyed.

Plus I've found that TBS (ha! I can use a new abbreviation now!) have a more visceral tense feel, whereas RTS just seems like "click a bunch and have the most powerful units as soon as possible". When you actually have the ability to proccess everything that's going on and you know that every little choice you make is going to have consequences, it really ups the tension :)

I'm not much of a strategy fan but I have played my share of command conquer and it's just that how fast you click.

Edit: then are the others, jagged and x-com and more. always better, takes more time but so what.

Well, to be perfectly fair, I don't think C&C is considered to be the most tactical RTS ever made :)

See edit.
And it isn't. *plays red alert theme*

Sorry to disappoint but no, age will finally catch up with everybody. In a couple of years you'll be an oldtimer too. :)

(Hint: magic number is 30.)

ahh, but by then most "oldtimers" my age will be reminiscing about how "OMG REVOLUTIONARY" Halo 1 was and how "nothing today is as good as it was", whereas I'll still be back in the 90s :)

Halo 1 propably will be new wolfenstein 3d in future.
But man that second one was crap in pc.

Except that Halo 1 really didn't do anything new besides make console FPS controls less sucky, whereas Wolfenstein 3d completely revolutionized gaming as we know it

(well, ok...technically it was Doom that REALLY jump-started 3d gaming, and technically it was Catacombs 3d or Hovertank that STARTED 3d...but you get my point)

Right. It didn't do anything but who young ones remembers wolf 3d in future.
Getting older is not an easy task.
Also, why in all the fps games primary in crysis there had to be aliens. I was happy just shooting people. ^^
Doom fellows came from mars right? =)

crazy_dave: While I played some of these older games when I was a kid (and some not yet on GOG), a lot of these games are new for me as well. So GOG for me is a great find - fantastic games which are cheap and on top of that are, for me, brand new! :)
Same here. Doom 1-2 (with all the TC mods, extra levels etc.) kept me so captivated that I missed quite a lot of games released around the same time, same happened later also with some other games.

But even then, the sheer volume of new games is so big even today that even a dedicated gamer can't possibly play all interesting games, let alone afford to buy them.
