House of Cards might be a good recommendation if you're into the political side of GoT.

anamorphic: They are great shows although somewhat more aimed at mainstream audiences, but if you want more adult rated TV comparable to GoT, have you seen Spartacus: Blood And Sand (s1), followed by Spartacus: Gods Of The Arena? (And then seasons 2-3). I would personally rate it above most other shows, but only if you like TV with: lots of nudity (male and female), slow motion sword slashing combat (which BTW, Legend Of The Seeker also excels in), lots of over-exaggerated blood spraying (graphic novel style like the movie "300"), and an old-fashioned Roman language way of speaking (the word "cock" is used often :D) - you really need to pay attention to understand the dialogue but you soon get used to it. The language is one of the shows' great strengths, IMO.

(Funnily enough, both Seeker and Spartacus have the same actor for the bad guy. Seeker is any easy recommend for family viewing - my 96 year old grandmother loved it. Spartacus though is unadulterated modern TV, not everyone can see past the blood to enjoy it. And like most shows, you need to give it a few episodes before it really gets intense!)

(Rome, I have not seen, but I gather it is a more toned-down drama than Spartacus?)
I have seen all the spartici and really enjoyed them :) Its nowhere near the quality of GOT with the production/writing/acting etc etc but I found it very enjoyable nonetheless !

CptFandango: Well now the seasons over its nearly Monday and I have no GOT to look forward too :( I have watched all of cbg19's epic histories and reviews etc, played the RPG and the strategy game a long time ago (ser mors is the best character in the whole saga) and don't want to read the books as I am following the tv series and don't want any spoilers.

This has joined into my unquenchable cyberpunk hankering (which was partially sated by the cancelled series almost human) But I'm hitting up the community for opinions and suggestions :D

Visit some castles & museums of history and take some sword fighting lessons, attend some medieval/renaissance festivals., hit up a historical archive or library and marvel at century old documents and illustrations. You live in the UK so it should not be hard to find venues and opportunities to do all that. All this will distract you from your GoT cravings, and much more!

Hardrada: There is still politics, but the books are told largely from the point of view of the soldiers, not the politicians. If you want backstabbing and intrigue Joe Abercrombie's books could be worth a try, and are very good regardless.
I was going to recommend Joe Abercrombie as well :)

And for anyone who has seen The Wire, I'd highly recommend Ed Burns' other works The Corner (prelude to The Wire) and Generation Kill (starring Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood fame).

Legend of the Seeker is very much like Hercules and Xena in its telling, and it shows given the links to those shows. Whoever thought Craig Horner would make a good Richard Cypher was fucking off in dreamland.

Rome is brilliant and highly recommended. It is of a quality well above Sparticus in terms of the writing and directing. I really enjoyed all of Sparticus but it is a different beast, much more focused on showing both sword and cock than telling a complex narrative(whereas GoT is a complex narrative about sword and cock :P)

I never thought there'd be so many fans of The Wire here, that is most gratifying!

I wanted to say mate, if you have any problems installing theA Clash of Kings mod for Warband don't hesitate to send me a PM, happy to help other people with their addiction...er...no I stand by that.
