l0rdtr3k: Kingdom Come is on my wishlist for a while,is it good?
Kingdom Come is pretty good, I'd recommend it. I also highly recommend All-Star Superman, if you haven't read it yet, and since you have some grasp of the silver age, I would highly, highly recommend Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? I love that one.

I also liked the Batman/Judge Dredd crossovers, but the collection I have is (bizarrely) missing one of the stories and I haven't gotten the new collection with all of them yet.

mrcrispy83: I'm more into manga, but I also read other stuff occasionally like Transmetropolitan, Planetary, etc..
Your your into manga, have you read Lone Wolf and Cub? It is a Samurai Masterpiece.

Why have they not made an animated adaption I do not know.

Also, what are you guys opinion on the New 52? I'm loving it so far. Year Zero,Wrath of the First Lantern, Superman Unchained are great reads and Forever Evil will soon hit Brazilian shelves this month :3

I don't like the Silver Age much, too stupid for me. The only thing that I love about it was the Green Lantern and Flash comics, even though they get really silly(Flash traveling through time via treadmill anyone?).

I have the New York collection here on my shelf. Really great read.

Johnmourby: Oh boy... wait till the snobbish Australian guy sees this thread.

I like comics, superhero and non-superhero. But don't read them much because compared to films and video games it's rather expensive hobby. Here in England comics kind of a hipster thing (don't think children here read comics at all). People don't look down on you for reading them but it does mark you as an artsy/nerdy type. Outside the big cities we basically don't have comic book shops any more. You can buy graphic novels from the big book stores but the selection is limited mostly to old classics and new releases.
I grew up with TV shows biased on Spiderman, X-men, Batman, the Hulk. And I still enjoy watching them.

As for my favourite stories... My favourite superhero runs would be Peter David's run on the Hulk, Dan Slott on She-Hulk, Mark Waid on the Brave and the Bold, Simon Furmon on Transformers UK and Avengers: Under Siege by Rodger Stern. I also enjoy collection the Creepy Archives (Yes I know that last one's not Superhero).
My favourite Graphic novels include M by Jon J Muth, Mouse Guard by David Petersen, the Flight books collected by Kazu Kibuishi, Bone by Jeff Smith, Hellboy by Mike Mignola, Ronin, the Dark Knight Returns and The Man without fear by Frank Miller and probably my favourite one is New York By Will Eisner
I hope I've put someone onto good reading matirtal with that list :)

I've not read that much of it, I'm a trades guy for one thing, and I've not heard much good about them. I did read the first two volumes of New 52 Batman, and while the Owls storyline started off good (I liked the first volume), I felt it started to fall apart really, really fast in the second part. I read a few of the Villains Month comics. Riddler wasn't bad, but I think was tied into the Zero Year story, maybe? It definitely felt like it was part of something bigger. I didn't like the Penguin one, but after re-reading it I thought it was better than I initially thought, although Penguin as a dude who'll deftly murder three guys with a sword still strikes me as a touch absurd. The Zod issue was pretty terrible though.

They also fucked up Mr. Freeze, changing him from a tragic villain to just another nut, but with a freeze gun. I was also not fond of the FCBD Future's End preview. Just absolutely terrible.

On the other hand, I'm kinda excited for the new Batgirl team, it sounds like they're going to have a style more like the Stephanie Brown Batgirl run that I adored (and hated the New 52 for erasing from continuity).

javier0889: But thank you for saying "DC" and not "DC comics", which is like saying "Detective Comics comics". A pet peeve of mine :P
It used to be, but now "DC" just means "DC." They call themselves "DC Comics" sometimes (check out the 1,000,000 comics, in the top left they state that they're "DC Comics").

While I prefer manga over comics, I still very much enjoy comics like Tintin, Dilbert, and the Far Side. I hope that we can someday have a GOG-esque distributor of both manga and comics, because I am running out of room for physical products. That, and something like the complete Calvin and Hobbes is far too heavy to conveniently read.

Edit: I wonder if Bill Watterson would be willing to let GOG sell digital versions of his work? He is very anti-commercialism as I understand it, so opposing something like DRM is probably up his alley.

As a kid I loved comics, especially the horror types. I read things like Tales From the Crypt, Swamp Thing, Man Thing, Werewolf by Night, Morbius the Living Vampire, etc. In my early teen years I didn't read many (all my money went to sci-fi/fantasy novels instead).

Once I hit university, a friend I met there was really into comics and got me back into it. I grabbed things like The Dark Knight, Cerebus, The Nam, Grim Jack, Timothy Truman's Scout, Grendel, Akira (when it first appeared over here), V for Vendetta, and a bunch of others I can't recall offhand.

Went on a couple decade hiatus where I never bought any after that, but started buying a few again over the last couple years.

Recently, I've picked up the Superior Spiderman run, Manhattan Projects, American Vampire, the Watchmen graphic novel (although I'd read the comics when they were first released), From Hell graphic novel, and The Witcher comics.
Oh shit! I completely forgot! Batman vs. Predator is super freaking awesome. Seriously, it sounds like a silly idea, but it absolutely works, and owns. It has absolutely one of my favourite Alfred scenes as well. It had two sequels, and I actually read the second one first (my first comic too!), but sadly haven't read the third. The second at least is fun, but not as good as the first.

Get Batman vs. Predator.
There was Batman which were voice acted by Robocop. =)
Hmmm... Comics, huh? Well, these days I'm far more interested in manga, but when I was younger I did read a lot of american comics. Spiderman, Wolverine, Spawn and The Avengers mostly, but sometimes also a few Batman comics. Well, I could pretty much choose whatever series I wanted to read since my father had (and still has) a pretty large collection (certainly if you consider that almost noone in my country is interested in comics) of I guess close to a thousand issues. He doesn't really buy new ones anymore though, since he collected only the comics translated to Dutch and the company that did that went bankrupt.
No, but only because I find being a comic book nerd, a pain in the ass.

In order to buy comic books, you have to drive to some store that is far away because these stores aren't very popular(too nerdy for most people, unfortunately). Then when you are there, you have to spend an hour searching for the comic books you want. And 9 times out of 10, they don't have the comic books you want. Then after some time, your comic book collection becomes massive and starts to take up half your room. And that makes life hard if you plan on getting laid in the next 100 years :P It also makes your life a lot more difficult if you are one of those types who moves around a lot. And a large comic book collection taking up so much space will annoy you if you enjoy a Swedish style home.

If being a comic book nerd became easier, then I'd definitely become one. Too bad, there isn't like a Steam or GOG for comic books or is there? It would be cool to get all the comic books you want, digital, with a few clicks of the mouse.
Except for The Walking Dead or Kick-Ass, I'm not very fond of comics ! Always Batman, Superman, Spiderman... but I respect the fans of super-heroes.

There's Comixology, and DC has a very similar setup (they also offer stuff on Comixology). Not too sure about Marvel, but honestly I prefer paper, so I'm not too familiar with digital comics distribution.

the animated version of the dakr knight returns in other words
I like comics but both Marvel and DC haven't impressed me much I don't like that superhero hype . My favorite comics are Dylan Dog, Alan Ford and Tin Tin.
I'm not a huge comic fan, but I read them occasionally. These days I don't read much, and comics are easiest, so I do buy some graphic novels and read them. The last one I read was terrible: Death of Superman. Forced myself to trudge through it.

Marvel and DC use the Comixology system (now part of Amazon) for their apps, even though it's separate apps. Marvel also has Marvel Unlimited, a subscription which gives you access to a shitload of digital comics (over 13,000 according to their site) for $10 a month or $99 a year.

Other publishers also have their own apps, but Comixology has pretty much all of them, so can be more convenient than having lots of separate apps.

Just note that it's DRM heavy, you will only be able to read through the app or website. That said, it's possible to read offline, at least with the Android app.
