This time it's a Mac game. It was published in the mid-90's, it's sci-fi, and I think mostly first person, but not really a shooter. I think the game involved recovering DNA data on extinct species so that they could be cloned, and I distinctly remember a part at the beginning of the game where you had to pick a partner character. I remember that because there was a sort of "interview" portion of the "pick a partner" phase, and during the interview of one of these potential partner's, the guy says "I like to kill things. It makes me happy."

Yeah, that sounds a lot like it, since the description mentions the (very familiar) names of the wingmen like Dogstar and Thrash, but I'm having a hard time finding screencaps for it. The game also made heavy use of FMV on the Mac version, so maybe someone has some of those posted up somewhere.

I'll mark it as the solution, tentatively.
