StingingVelvet: Unless you know something I don't that Sledgehammer Games CoD game is next year's entry, and it's rumored to be sci-fi.
I've heard that there's going to be at least 2 CoDs next year: Sledgehammer's and The Developer Formally Known As Infinity Ward's. Presumably the latter is Modern Warfare 3.

Ramping up the release rate was so successful for the Guitar Hero games, wasn't it?

GameRager: Isn't that almost the same thing sports titles like NB/NFL/MADDEN/etc do every year?
Yup, and they're still selling well enough for them to keep doing it, right?
It may be the first day of 2011, but I'm already calling this the Most Dramatic Overblown Statement of the Year. "Another bit of gaming dies"? The next Call of Duty game isn't the only game coming out this year, and with a fresh new developer, it could be good.

But it is a sports game. So it should be the same game every year, right?

I agree. I'll wait and see as well. COD gets a lot of shit thrown at it for being dumbed down as far as action games go, but remember the first COD game that was PC only and was top quality stuff?

I don't get it. Why does this mean that another bit of gaming dies? Which bit of gaming, specifically, will die once MW3 hit stores?

That article is pure speculation as far as what is coming out when. Of course MW3 is in development, that doesn't mean it is 2011's CoD.

And the reason I feel its another bit of gaming dying is caue call of duty is the same recycled crap repeated time and time again, I played the first COD and the 4th and have been around and spoken to people who have played all of them and the one question that seems to prove my point is: Apart from graphics and a slightly different single player campain, why is this COD any different from any other?
, if they do bring out the sci fi one Ill have to change that question slightly

Well you definitely shouldn't buy it then. Not sure how that means gaming is dying any more than them releasing countless Zelda and Mario sequels that are all the same game.

It isnt unless they make the story significantly different. I just have a bugbear about COD
Well, big companies run on sequels and licenses, everything else in unnecessary risk. Becky Heineman puts it's nicely on MattChat, if You doubt my words.
That's how 'mainstream' works. CoD is Your midday MTV crap, thank gawd for the radio.

Obviously.

I'm not going to pretend it's the greatest thing ever for the industry that a short and mostly rehashed game sells the most copies ever every year, but at the same time CoD is not the source of the problem. It's just a game you can choose to play or not, same as any other.
