It's good to see that there will be diversity in who has the major streaming services. I like Amazon and look forward to what they can do with it.
I'm glad that Google didn't manage to buy even that, but Amazon is still another company with too much power. We'll see.

Elmofongo: Why does Amazon need a Streaming service of all website?
They don't... Although long term ad revenue might help...

Maybe one of the upper directors loves watching twitch TV and they opted to beat Google at purchasing them than let the whole site get sunk in the endless DMCA and Google+ crap that Google forced on Youtube...

Boogie2988 comments perhaps anything you are playing will have ads referencing the product on amazon making it easier to buy what you're watching.... So... *shrugs* If the site holds it's own, then it's just a matter of how big the return is on a year by year basis...
I'm not glad that twitch was acquired, but if a company was going to acquire it, I'm REALLY glad it wasn't Google or Facebook.

Now if only they would get rid of that copyright scan & muting crap.
[Nevermind :)]

Google failed. Good.

KingofGnG: There will be only one... big super-mega-corporation. And you will be anally possessed by it, like it or not.
Time for that Corporate Congress then, eh? ;)
If I used Twitch then I'd be upset that Amazon would probably not make it available in Canada.

Maybe.

Niggles: Any good alternatives to youtube and twitch thats growing?
Check out Hitbox.tv :).
So instead of being acquired by an amoral mega-corporation with too much power, Twitch has been acquired by an amoral mega-corporation with too much power. Great.
For those wondering about Amazon's reasons for purchase, the Wall Street Journal says Amazon wanted to acquire Twitch for several reasons. It mentions assisting Amazon's push into web video, boosting Amazon's game business, and helping its "fledgling online-ad business." Relevant quote relating to games: "Amazon has been making a push into gaming, including bulking up its staff of programmers at its studios in Seattle and Southern California. The company has introduced several new videogames to complement its Fire TV set-top box, introduced in April, and sells a devoted controller for gaming."
I'm not sure what to think of this. I don't really watch a lot of Twitch streams.

monkeydelarge: Good news, indeed.

I was afraid google would get their hands on Twitch and then force that google plus shit on Twitch users. :)

Elmofongo: But still is no new website gonna avoid being bought by a big company. Facebook or Twitter did not get purchased by Apple or Mircrosoft.

Why does Amazon need a Streaming service of all website?
I'm guessing Amazon wants to be like google.
I am glad it was not Google, the last thing we need is less competition.
