Let me say this right up front, I'm not anti-Steam, or what have you. I've just not had a compelling reason to use their service. I'm really just curious as to how far in the minority I may be. Anyone else not registered with Steam or a similar service? Or am I a minority of one, the virtual version of the Omega Man?
You do have an account on a similar service, it's called GOG, it's right here :-P
I made my first steam account a few days ago to pick up world of goo...
Now I got world of goo and the humble bundle, no regrets so far thought.
Well, I've had a Steam account ever since TeamFortress Classic moved from the precursor of Steam (I don't recall the name of that multiplayer service anymore, google it) to Steam, back when Steam was a mere toddler. But I kinda know how you feel, considering I don't have any current gen console (PS3, XBox360 or WiiU). And like you, I don't feel any compelling reason to get one either.

I thought at some point I would definitely buy a PS3 just to get a Blueray player, but nowadays I'm thinking why would I even want a Blueray player?

I'm missing lots of console exclusives now, but frankly I couldn't care less, as long as I have enough games I enjoy.

You're not alone... but.. might like to reconsider anyway. :)

DRM is bad - gog is better and all that, but with the likes of current new years sale, even if you consider it a rental for a few years, a new(ish) game for a few bucks is a good deal...
I was always really suspicious of Steam.
Got forced into it as I was not about to forego the opportunity to play Dawn of War 2 or Blood Bowl.
Been really happy with the service since.
Until a few weeks ago when, for no apparent reason, 1 of the 2 computers I use most for gaming decided that it won't run steam any more.
Steam support have flatly ignored my cries for help.
I have GOG and from what I understand no where anywhere else can you find a group with this much of a sense of humor and accesibility so I have absolutly no intention of even looking for another account anywhere. Also, if you google "problems" and "steam" you will get search results. Not so much if you google "problems" and "GOG". I may be off on that but its what I've gathered from my limited experience.

Yes. I suppose I've worded it awkwardly, haven't I? GOG does perform some of the same functions. But I don't need GOG to play a game I've bought from a brick and mortar store.
I made a Steam account only to play the demo of Rayman Origins and Worms Reloaded, but I don't have any full game yet.
I originally got my Steam account when Prey was moved from Triton to Steam.

Well... I think that's the wrong way to approach the issue. Steam is a digital retailer, just as GOG is. However, Steam is also a DRM that creators can use for their games. Practically, when you buy a game from a shop and have to register with Steam to play it, you're not registering with Steam the shop, you're registering with Steam the DRM, as you have not paid Steam for the game. You won't see that on GOG of course, because it's DRM free, but it doesn't change the fact that it is one of 'those' services.

That could very well be my story. Well, I wasn't "forced" as more of "surprised". I had pretty much given up on PC gaming, but it was actually Steam that got me back on the wagon, as their deals made me try some of the modern games I ignored because "old games are always better". It was the Christmas sale three years ago that kicked it all off again.
No Steam, No FB, No Twitter, use XP....quess I qualify?
I use whatever service has the best offers for the games I'm interested in, not just regarding the price though. Payment methods, DRM, customer support, bonus stuff etc. are also part of the equation. As a result, I have quite a few acoounts with other services. I like GOG best, but I don't limit myself to it, because sadly GOG does not offer all the games I'm interested in.

I'm pretty much anti-DRM though, which doesn't mean that I'm completely against services who use it, just that I'm less willing to spend much money on games with DRM that I perceive as restrictive.

I don't really have any interest in creating accounts with Facebook, Twitter, myspace and so on, does that count? ;)

I'm not quite sure, but it's possible that I created my steam account because of Orange Box - it was kinda forced on me too.

But then, when I started discovering their catalogue, possibilities, etc, I stayed. And I'm a happy customer for several years now.
