Picked up Real Myst and Riven
A question for my fellow GOGers: I have never played any Myst games before. Which one(s) would you recommend for me to purchase and start on, to get a feel for the series and the gameplay?

RIght now, I'm split between Real Myst and the Masterpiece Edition.

RealMYST is a remake of MYST with a real-time engine and an additional Age that ties in with Riven and Myst 4. However, it might take some troubleshooting to get it working correctly.

Masterpiece is a safer bet, however you'll basically have an old point-and-click interface.

Also: do not give up. At first it seems illogical but believe me, the puzzles are completely logical. That is, if you do read the books in the game and pay attention to everything.

URU!

I absolutely love Myst and Riven, and Uru is one of the top games for me. It is kinda of "weird", in a unique way, full of back story bout the D'ni lore.
I grew up playing the Myst series. I loved each and every game. It also happened to be one of the first few games I got when my dad bought a cd-rom drive for our pc. I was pretty heavy into books as a child and Myst and Riven were awe inspiring. The games are about exploring and understanding the mechanics, structure and culture of the world around you. It's amazing how many times I read or hear comments from people that both games don't have a story, but they do. It's there if you're patient and observant.

Cyan also put out some kick-ass novels which I heartily recommend.

While my nostalgia would have me recommend Myst Masterpiece (or better yet, the original in glorious 256 colors.) I would suggest realMyst due to the ease of navigation and added content. If however, you can only buy one game then get Riven as it is the superior game of all those in the series.

Very kind prices for these classics of the adventure genre, though I severely doubt I'll get into them so I'll abstain. I sort of never got on the Myst bandwagon when it was underway eons ago and still feel too apart from it now. I'm also not that keen on puzzles/riddles either in most games.... Plu I still have Post Mortem from dotemu to get around to, as well as that reply of Longest Journey and Still Life I keep promising myself I'll do. I'll save these several bucks for whatever plum EA offering is in the coming mix.
One way of getting into Myst would be to get the novels. They're pretty cheap and have a lot of backstory to them.
A weekend of relief for my wallet. I'll buy URU one day.. but not yet..After EA joined my wishlist is starting to grow...again.
Nice to see this sale here GOG :-D

StingingVelvet: Just bought RealMyst and Riven. Will probably never play them.
Same here. My GOG backlog is growing slowly but surely.
Why did I not notice this sooner?!?!

Been wanting this since I missed the last one

I am so getting these, all of them! Mark my words!!
There, bought them, even the silly Manhole game, just because of its funny name.

I would have just wished that Myst III: Exile would have been included as well, after all it is an older game than e.g. Uru games that are included.
mine

ALL MINE

Just bought everything

Apart from being uber excited to have the opportunity to experience all of this at half price, I am especially grateful for the fact that weekend promos last into Monday because I otherwise would have missed out yet again, so thank you GOG!
