Hey, Id like to make a game suggestion for us to be able to download. Id LOVE to get my hands on avp gold. Was wondering if you could add that to the store when you have the chance, thanks.

GOG doesn't have it now but I suppose you could get it on Steam. With multiplayer that works.
I think the only thing that's holding it back from a GOG release is that the lower price point isn't low enough.

If you're a Steam hater then you can always grab it on DotEmu DRM-free.

Steam doesnt have gold edition, and there is a large difference between the basic and gold. Better sound, graphics, some gameplay tweaks and some other things.

Do you know a site that sells the gold edition? There are some big differneces between classic and Gold. From what I know, gold is teh way to go. Better sound, graphics, and some gameplay tweaks as well. From what I know its the superior version by far, due to alot of the uncut material such as gore and other things.

From Steam's page:

Aliens Versus Predator Classic 2000 features the Colonial Marine, Alien and Predator Campaigns and the frenetic single-player Skirmish mode from the original title: Alien Versus Predator Gold Edition, which was released to massive acclaim in 2000.
Or, yeah, there's that.

What do you mean, exactly?

you can always grab it on DotEmu
I only ask because that's the only game I want from there, so I'd prefer a GOG release.

He means that $5.99 is the lowest GOG go and at the moment AvP is $2.99 on Steam.

DotEmu might not be able to rival GOG (although GOG has seen better days), but they're reliable enough to be trusted with a 3 Euro purchase. And creating an account there is certainly quicker than waiting for AvP to appear here.

I own the original gold edition as well as the newly release AVP Classic 2000 and I can say that the newer release is the better of the 2. Not only does the re-release contain the content from the gold edition, as stated earlier it is the only version with working multiplayer now (including co-op). Another nice feature of the re-release is that it contains all the original Redbook audio soundtrack in CD-DA (originally on CD2) encoded with modern audio compression to greatly decrease the file size footprint.

If by chance you still decide on purchasing the original gold edition on disk, I'll point out that you'll need an updated "binkw32.dll" (bink video *.dll) to fix the looping sound error you will get trying to run it on a modern O.S. Googling it should turn it up fairly quickly - if not I can up to a freebie file hoster.
Also you would need to disable anti-virus while playing the original due to it's executable "avp.exe" sharing a file name with the Kaspersky AntiVirus suite. Since a lot of malware is named after files from security software suites in order to hide it's intent, AVP.exe can sometimes be misidentified as malicious. Again the newer version doesn't have this problem (executable was renamed to "AvP_Classic.exe")
I got it for $5 on gamersgate, DRM-free if you know the trick. It's lovely to have a modernized version of the game with widescreen and a better UI... not sure the game itself holds up well though.

My biggest turn off is that the alien's wall climbing is bugged, specifically the 90 degree edges that you can't climb down from. That is the game killer for me as an Alien. Marine is still rock solid fun though.

Your almost correct, My friend and I used to play the gold edition on his PC untill he lost the disc (like an Idiot) I did buy classic and Im not satisfyed with it. Not everything is the same. I remember quite easily what the gold edition is like, and Iv noticed quite a few differences. Some of teh cut scenes arnt the same in the new steam edition. Some of sound effects arnt also is not the same as well as the lack of enhanced audio the gold edition had such as enviromental echos and some ambient sounds, it may be updated with the new maps and expansions that gold had. But, the gameplay is a tad modifyed. I suppose if I want multiplayer Ill buy the steam version, but for single player I want the Gold edition.

And if you do upload that updated binkw32.dll file, that would be awesome, If I do get the original gold edition, Ill be sure to contant you. Thanks
