2012 is has been an age of wonders for GOG.com with so many great games coming to our catalogue already, so this weekend’s sale seems more than appropriate.

The sale this weekend may have a small number of games, but it is certainly chock-full of gameplay: [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/age_of_wonders_series]Age of Wonders I, II & III, the three games from one of the most famous and successful turn-based strategy series, are now 50% off for the rest of this weekend.

Age of Wonders in 1999 marked the beginning of a blood-drenched conflict between magical races, when humans destroy the fragile equilibrium that existed among Elves, Goblins, Undead, Orcs, Dwarves, and other magical races. Several elements combined to make the first game so successful: detailed depictions of mythical creatures; mixing empire building, role-playing, and warfare; and creating over 50 upgradeable heroes who could wield a lethal array of weapons. Age of Wonder is only $2.99 this weekend on GOG.com.

Age of Wonders II: the Wizards Throne continues the story of neverdying war between fantasy races with over 130 unique units such as steam cannons, airships, and mammoth riders. AoEII features well-polished 2D graphics as well as many more spells and campaign scenarios full of intrigue, action, and suspense. Age of Wonders II: the Wizards Throne is only $4.99 on GOG.com until Monday, February 20th at 11.59 a.m. EDT.

In Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, two new bloodthirsty forces enter the world of AoE: corrupt Empire led by Phobius, and hellish demons, that breed within the Shadows. The third and final installment in the series features new races, new units, better graphics and AI, and completely new Shadow world introduced in the main campaign’s story.

Additionally, all Age of Wonders games come with map and campaign editors and multiplayer mode. Once you get into those, you’ll find there’s not enough hours in the day without some sort of wizardry. We’re no wizards, but this weekend’s offer is magical. Visit the promo page and buy the complete Age of Wonders trilogy for 50% off this weekend only

Thankyou for this. It looks like the others are there too
My personal recommendation for anyone interested in a nice strategy/RPG hybrid (with a storyline that forks brilliantly - and with a bunch of different outcomes!) is to get Age of Wonder 1
I'd recommend skipping 2, unless you like insanely hard challenges. The third one is alright - I haven't played it much, though.

Bottom line: Get 1 no matter what, only get 2 if you like a challenge and SM if you're feeling lucky

kalirion: Shadow Magic is definitely the one to get, if you're only going to get one. It's even got a random scenario generator similar to MoM's.

If you're going to get 2, get the first and SM, since SM has everything that Wizard's Throne does gameplay-wise (and more), while AoW 1 actually has different (though simpler) gameplay.

keeveek: I totally agree with this. So I repeat to emphasize:

if you want to buy only one game: Buy Shadow Magic. it has the biggest replayability level with random maps (but to be honest, there are plenty user created maps to download in the net)

if you want to buy two, buy SM and AoW1. Because it's totally different, and I actually even prefer the first AoW. Maybe it's because of sentiment, but I didn't really liked town expanding system from AoW2.

And Shadow Magic is the most beautiful 2D turn based strategy to me.
I'd like to add to this that the single player campaign in AoW1 had one of the most interesting stories I've seen in a strategy game ever. It could branch in almost any direction - you could defy your faction leader's orders, recruit whatever race YOU thought would help the most, and in the end you might even end up rebelling against your own faction! For those of us who values the story aspect of games, this one is a winner
I don't know how the story of SM compares to that

SWorD84: Which one should I buy?

Shadow Magic or The Wizards Throne?
Shadow Magic, without a doubt.
Wizard's Throne is like a beta version (AI can't use boats, for example) of SM, and it is only worth it for the campaign.
If you want to play used made maps (and there are many excellent ones) you can play all the WT and SM ones if you have SM, but not the other way around.
The Unofficial Patch, that introduces unit descriptions and many new units, is also made for SM.

Great Promo! Bought all of 'em. Don't think I'll have time to play them in near future, but I need to support you GOG as I am eagerly waiting for those new (1-3 years old) DRM-free games you promised lately!
