Anybody know if Gog is getting Age of Empires II HD? I saw steam is selling it now as a preorder. I would much rather buy it from gog if it will be available.

It said in the trailer that it was Steam exclusive... so I'm guessing "no" for the immediate future at least.

Funny there's no AoE1 listed there.... (that I can find anyway....)

AOE1 seems to be immune to any trials to make it run widescreen, so probably that's why it wasn't included.

But yeah, 19 EUR for AOE2? I'll pass. I wull still play on my retail copy I bought brand new and sealed for 3 bucks 3-4 years ago, and apply a widescreen mod myself.

The only good value I can see here, it seems multiplayer was worked out with steamworks? If that's going to revive AOE2 multiplayer, I am going to buy it on steam, but only on a deep sale.

Maybe that's a GOG exclusive temporarily. :P (assuming that Microsoft really is the publisher coming)

Seems to be a shoe-in for -75% $5 sale at some point, that's when I'll pick it up personally.

Highly unlikely that it will be available on GOG for now especially when the promo says exclusively on Steam... you are forgetting the most important addition to the HD version may not be the HD part but the Steamworks integration for multiplayer .. maybe we will see the older version on GOG.. It would be an instant buy.. even though I still have my discs for AOE 2 and the only ones on disc :D..

It needs reviving? From reading up on this game since the buzz came out it would appear the multiplayer for this game is still very alive.

It is very much alive.

My veiw is this is a money grabbing exercise by ms and steam but also steam trying to pull more people into relying on them for mp.

Id love to see this do a belly flop and fail but deep down i know it wont and even i will end up buying it when its 75% off

Obviously it's to get more money out of the game as with any game, although strictly speaking I'd consider this less of a moneygrab than say, re-releasing the game as is without any improvements to the game...

Why wouldn't someone want a widescreen version of their favorite classic game? Yes, of course, we could do that already with tweaking, but if it's rereleased anyway it's nice to see that effort put into it. Steam Workshop is also a sweet addition imo. I'm sure Steam for multi will be nice for those that use it. (I never multi'd games like this personally so no use for me)

Plus it's a marginal graphics upgrade.
