hedwards: Probably because they made a film without understanding the series they were making. People poo-pooed me for pointing it out last time, but a huge part of the charm of those films is how bad they are in terms of production quality. You've got men in rubber suits, poorly dubbed dialogues and I doubt the original dialogue was anything to write home about.

Those are the things that made the films awesome. And none of the later films have managed to captured the spirit.

Elmofongo: Hey hedwards can I ask do you know where I can watch the original 1954 Godzilla? Not the American version entitled, "Godzilla: King of Monsters" I mean the original Japanese version. I like to see it based on the premise of that its like a serious disaster movie. The kind of movie I wanted this 2014 version to be.
I'm not sure I'd know. The usual places I'd recommend looking are mostly US only. These films used to be on TV fairly regularly as they were incredibly cheap to air.

EDIT: I see there's a Criterion Collection release, if you can find that it's probably the one to watch. http://www.criterion.com/films/27755-godzilla

It's also available for streaming on Amazon, and it's included on Amazon Prime, if you're a member:

Elmofongo: Some Spoilers and I know I made an older thread regarding the movie but right now I want someone else opinion about what I thought of this movie as I am now.

I know the movie has come and gone, but I managed to watch the this movie again (I found another video rental store much closer to where I live) and after seeing it with my Brother and his girlfirend, we all came to the same conclusion.: This movie kinda sucks because it is boring.

The characters are all boring the main character is so generic that anyone can play as him like Mark Whalberg or something And seeing it a second time the lack of Screen time for Godzilla is annoying. And I know people say that the old movies were like that but did you actually liked watching the human story arcs? I bet $100 that anyone who loves the old movies just skipped to the Godzilla fights. Godzlla 1998 had more screentime.

Also when Godzila did fought with the MUTOs I was kinda underwhelmed. I have seen better and more brutal Monster fights than this. What you may ask? The T-Rex fight in King Kong 2005 now that was a brutal Monster Fight. And we saw the whole fight, here its just 30 seconds of fights compared to King Kong's 10 minutes.

Finally in my old thread I accussed this film of having false marketing since the trailers and interviews suggested that Godzilla was gonna be an antagonist like a wild rampagin force of destruction that everyone flees from sort of like the original Godzilla 1954, like a disater movie.

Basically I thought it was gonna be like Steven Speilberg's War of the Worlds like that scene when alien tripod first appeared and everyone was running away from its attack? Basically I thought this film was gonna be like that but with Godzilla. And thinking back this movie would have been better if it was like a disater movie.

All in all this movie was one of the most hyped moives of the year (as said by Watchmojo) but ended up being underwhelming.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
