I'm (yet again) trying to gain help from the neat GOG community!
Should you be very familiar with ADSL set-up and TAE/AWADo, I'd love to hear your opinion (and should you be capable of resolving my issue, I'd gladly hand you a GOG of your choice excluding TW2).
I'm running ADSL (ITU G.992.1) Annex B connected to an Infineon 113.184 - H2 and just recently suffer great trouble with my DSL synchronisation. The problem is that I can not complain to my ISP, simply because I'm not only behind three other TAEs, but even behind an AWADo as well and I can not alter this. So the ISP theoretically has every right to claim the failure being on my side, but I've been using this very set-up for several years with only very minor sporadic problems and have not altered anything.
Now I can not help but wonder how this should suddenly become such a massive issue on my side as to prevent DSL synchronisation in nine out of ten times.
Would you happen to have any idea how this could suddenly happen (and if so, how this could be adjusted)?
My guess would have been a software or hardware update on the ISPs side ruining my connectivity, but then, how could I improve my connection again?
On that note, is there a router/ADSL modem out there with a (non custom/home-brew) firmware that provides detailed information on the DSL synchronisation process and the exact cause of failure?

Thank you very much in advance!

You're not talking about the big pink T? I've got a similar problem a year ago, the connection dropped from 16Mbit (G.992.1) back to 1 Mbit after a few days for safey reasons (bad connections). After I changed my setup and called the service again and again to get up to 16Mbit and to find a solution the reason for all this was that a cable on ISPs site was wrong wired. As far as I remember a service worker did a diagnose setup and forgot to wire it right back.

So yes, if your setup runs very well for a long time you have good chances that the fault is on the ISPs site.

EDIT: Btw, call you ISP and let give you the direct phone number to the service. They can check your line and try to find a break on their site. I talked to a very nice woman and they she didn't found the problem first, because the line was stable at the beginning and broke down only after a while.

EDIT2: About the router, I use a Draytek Vigor 2710n. I added an image about the connection informations you can get whit it.

I recently picked up a TP-Link 8816 and the diagnostic information is pretty thorough. Definitely more so than what the ISP would like. I'm seeing SNR Margin, Line Attenuation, Data Rate, Max Data Rate, Power and CRC.

I'm not sure if it's going to be compatible, but they do offer configurations for a few German ISPs and have a German language install program so I'm guessing that you can get one that's got the appropriate jack for use in Germany.

The nice thing though is that you should be able to pick one up for under 30 Euro. Mine was I think like $17 before shipping.

I wish I could, really.
The problem is that out of five times I had issues with them (spread out on several years) I only ever got to talk to a knowledgeable service special once. He knew what he was doing, I knew what I was doing and we took about three minutes to resolve my issue.
The other times, I got a friendly 'we have no problems on our side by default, so we need to send you a technician to check the problem locally'.
Since I can not accept this (due to my wonky set-up) and due to the fact that they now changed the contract to raise a 150€ fee for wrongfully calling their service, I'll opt out there.

I can see even more on mine :p
The problem is that I can only do so AFTER receiving a valid DSL synchronisation, which I have trouble getting. I'd need to see the detail of the synchronisation process in order to see where it's hanging :/

I really know your situation and how it sucks, that's why I first changed my setup to avoid such discussions on the phone. I also wanted a better router, so the decision didn't really hurt me.

The problem is that they want to close the problem cases fast regardless if the problem is really solved, because they get a bonus for it. That's the reason I avoid the normal service and try to get a direct phone number to a specialist, because in most cases the normal service can't help you.

I really hope you will find a solution. so best wishes from my side.
