Are the Kings Quest/Space Quest games worth getting? I have a huge backlog and I never played them so don't have a particular nostalgia to drive me. I own all the other Activision titles I think.
Not a fan of King's Quest. Simply can't stand it, and watching LPs reaffirmed this. All those princesses, fairy tale characters, flying gawdmothers, magic mirrors and stuff are incredibly annoying. Then again, I've never been a fan of Roberta Williams.
Space Quest like many Sierra games can be unforgiving, but at least it's got humour. It takes the piss out of the main character on a regular basis, has over the top cheesy sci-fi style, so again might not be suitable for everyone. :)

My advice, skip them. If you strip away the nostalgia and their place in history, they are actually quite bad. Either you play them consulting a walkthrough pretty much all the time, and you'll get a very short, perfectly linear, sort-of-funny-but-not-really-laugh-out-loud-material story. Or you could play them without any outside aid, and lose hours and hours of your time in near-constant frustration, because "unforgiving" is putting it mildly.

I'm not a fan of the Sierra style; the Leisure Suit Larry series is genuinely worth it, and the Quests for Glory are masterpieces of gaming, but I never really got the love for the other Quest games.

"Unforgiving" Sierra-style: you miss one object no one cared about in the beginning - you get stuck dead two hours into the game wihtout realizing what you've missed. A video Let's Play by somebody who knows the path to victory and the most amusing death scenes might be more enjoyable than actually playing, since you'll have to get a walkthrough anyway.

Thanks, I've enjoyed watching some lesser known old titles played through by other people before. It sounds strange but sometimes that's a better way to take in the story on a game that had flaws than actually playing it. The flaws can actually make you miss out on the enjoyment of the story.
Youtube's Frankomatic has good LPs of the entire 2D King's Quest Series (which makes it 7 out of 8). The devs persistence in combining twisted paths over pits with bad controls is fascinating.
Still no Interplay sale in sight...
I just *hope* you won't be disgusted with GOG for this and leave the site, Roman5...

I know this is meant to be a stab at the people who overreacted and "left" gog after the "closure" in september but no, I will not

and besides, the new year is not here yet and the sale is still not over so the Fat lady hasn't sang it's last song just yet

You misinterpreted it; I wasn't stabbing at those people, and it wasn't my intention to make it seem so, either.
I was only trying to point out that you're maybe just a bit too excited about something that may or may not happen. I know you're really holding out for certain Interplay titles, but maybe you could do so in a somewhat more reserved manner?
so.....
