Time flies like crazy and we're starting another weekend, with another promo that no strategist or tactician should miss. Let the promo begin!

This weekend we're offering an original [url=http://www.gog.com/en/page/promo_activision_mix]mix of Activision strategy and tactical games. Until Monday, October 10 at 11:59 p.m. EDT, we're offering an up to 50% discount on 6 titles from Activision. Gain wealth and power in the Empire and become the ruler of Rome in Caesar III, or build your own civilization over a span of 6000 years in Call to Power 2. If you're looking for managing a smaller squad in a more action oriented environment, try out Police Quest S.W.A.T. series. Again, we're offering you "the more you buy the bigger discount you get" promo. Starting at 25% off, every promo game you add to the order gives you 5% bigger discount up until you get 50% off on all 6 games from the mix. If you already own some games from the promo they will count towards your final discount. Check the promo page to see how your discount varies depending on what you get!

CaptainGyro: Jesus Christ timppu I know what I said to you in that third quote you posted. I don't need help remembering it, I had already seen for each time that I typed it, when you quoted it and when I responded to it. How am I putting words in your mouth? I specifically clarified and said that it DIDN'T mean that you said it. You're the one putting words in my mouth by telling me what I said.
I don't know what to you "pointing out" means, if it has nothing to do with "saying":

Gyro: "Why do I need to have it pointed out by timppu that most of the people here do care about the drm?"

Sure, you didn't claim I "said" anything like that, keep telling yourself that.

CaptainGyro: Accoring to you, some people( including me) might be bending the truth? Why?
Because you are so vigorously trying to make a point that doesn't exist, as in "I don't care whether I buy a game from Steam or GoG, but boy does it irritate me if a game costs more on GoG than on Steam.".

If it wouldn't matter in which service you get the game (with their perks and drawbacks), then obviously it wouldn't matter whether there is a price disparity between the two services.

avatar
CaptainGyro: Overly sensitive about steam. god that's hilarious coming from you,. I'm not overly sensitive , I'm just not a "woooh drm free woooooo gog you rule I will never buy from anybody else steam is evil " gog worshipper.
No, it is not hilarious coming from me because I don't get similar tantrums about the subject like you do over and over again. As the quote above demonstrates yet again, it seems to be an overly touchy subject to you.

CaptainGyro: I'm not even gonna bother going indepth with your " hey this is what I'd do at a gas station. why doesn't everybody else do the same exact thing as me and not leave any feedback in the feedback section?" analogy.
Translation: "I know I can't give any factual counterpoints, so I'll just descent to childish name-calling instead."

And unlike you keep claiming, I wasn't criticizing there giving feedback to GoG about their pricing schemes, I just commented on your illogical claim that the said people (complaining if a game costs more on GoG than Steam) wouldn't care in which service they get the game.

CaptainGyro: OK I'm done in this thread.
"Done", as in "I will continue it in bitch-about-life-in-general thread, hoping that timppu doesn't detect my random quips elsewhere."?

But I'm not yet done with this thread. I decided to get all the games in the promo last night, even though I was (somewhat) interested only to two games on it that I didn't own already, but I figured for a few bucks it is nice to have a CD-less version of some of the other games I already own...

I was ready to drop Call to Power 2, but adding it cost so little that it didn't make much sense to drop it... :)
I must say that these scalling promos are not working well for me. If it were classical 50 percent off, I would buy Call to power(which I actually wanted and would buy it for full price another time), Ceasar III(which I own on CD), SWAT 2(about which I am not sure if it will be enjoyable for me) and maybe the first of the strategy titles(which I also have on CD, but dont really play).

But seeing how small is the price drop, I bought only the game I really wanted - 8 bucks was to steep price for game I am not sure if I will even like or play, and 4 bucks each were to much for games I already own.

I my opinion this new scheme may motivate buyers who really want to test all old games or collect everything in catalogues - but it really takes motivation from me who just wants to play a game now and then and likes the lack of drm...

TheEnigmaticT: promo spread (I believe they usually were 15% - 30% splits), we've also taken note of your opinions of the new promo system. I should note that we haven't abandoned the previous systems, and I believe next week's is going to be one of the older systems anyway.

Once the sale is over, we'll evaluate all of your posts and the sales themselves. Thanks for the feedback!
So its called a spread promo well so you know I very much dislike it and it upsets me with GoG.com thinking they might be getting customer unfriendly. IMO

Look this sales type is not my cup of tea either but it is hardly customer unfriendly - for instance it's better than their old tiered model sale which GOG ran. These promos, tiered and spread, just reward a different set of customers. GOG can't run 50% or more off flat sales on everything - a lot depends on the game and the publisher. This way people who like to buy a middling to complete set for the game get a better discount than would be otherwise possible - and if you've already got a game in the set, you get a better discount! That is in no way customer unfriendly. Yes flat sales with a higher base are better for the likes of me, and clearly you, who buys one or two games from a promo, but not all flat sale are 50% off - since I've been here some have been 30% or even 20% off. I really do not get the complaining about this new sales system. Why would you say this is worse than the tiered model? In many ways, this is an improved, more customer friendly version of it! It's also not like the flat rate sales are going away - they've already run one big one.
