With the last release here in gog (Dark Reign 2), it seems Activision is very willing to support the project with their backcataloge. I have searched through various of their recent games and, apart from the Call of Duty games that are tied to Steam, they don't seem to use very dirty DRM schemes. And, apart from the $15 maps for those games, they don't seem to be abusing DLC either.

They are still assholes, of course, with the general disinterest they show for creativity and with movements like the recent layoffs at the Guitar Hero team that they practically forced to dig their own graves. But, considering they are the favorite bad guy of the medium, it's a bit surprising how little noise they make in terms of DRM.

Any theories? Seriously, I'm starting to feel sympathy for them, I need some conspiracy theory to counterbalance.

They're going to go Battle.net-only as soon as Blizzard lets them. I'm surprised Activision hasn't made a Call of Duty game that relies on Battle.net yet.

That would actually be quite fitting given that Blizzard is thriving while Activision seems to only continue to exist by association, despite the large profits generated by the very studios they subsequently destroyed.

They don't NEED DRM, they're protecting their products by making things so generic and shit that you only need to pirate one of their games a year to get the lot thus reducing piracy

I would hug you if you weren't thousands of miles away from me right now. The sad thing is you aren't even exaggerating.
The next call of duty will suffer from hurted sales due to the RUBBISH of black ops. Because of that, they are going to make more layoff, probably some developers that had nothing to do with it.

Okay, lets see. *Uses brain, after several misfires it finally squirts into life*

Activision are luring you into a false sense of security, they are trying to make you think their products are safe and then BAM! DRM suddenly released not only on their new games, not only on the games they have already released and you own and can now no longer play, but they will DRM your life!

That's right, if you want to continue being able to do things you will need a always-on internet connection to their servers, or else DIE!!!! Any loss os signal could result in temporary or permanent death, depending on whether you regain connection quick enough to restart your heart in time.

And of course, since you don't have any of the now-compulsory serial keys needed for the authentication for the games you have already bought you will need to buy them again despite already being DRM'd, with the most expensive one being your life of course. And you'll need to prove you are who you say you are before you can authenticate.

Governments will find themselves unable to operate as they too will be DRM'd. Police, burglars, firemen, airplanes, all will be needed to authenticate to Activision's servers before they can do anything. And that, my friend, is why Activision is really an evil megacorp with designs on taking over the world!!!!!!!!!

We're doomed.
I hope we can see Call of Duty 1 and 2 here someday, but damn they still sell it for $20 on Steam...
Why wont they release Hexen 2: Portal of Praevus, Quake 4, and Heretic 2 on Steam already :'(. Which reminds me, why isn't Heretic 2 released on here yet!? D:!

I'm betting on that studio that makes the Wii versions

I bought Call of Duty Deluxe Edition (Re-Activate) this week for 15€ and I saw the standard version for 10€. I guess this means at least a year until it drops to $10 and becomes gog material in the eyes of Activision. In other words, Activision thinks they can sell these games for more than gog prices.

Cool, just like in Homestuck
Just keep Bobby Kotick's hands off the games in GoG's catalog, lol.
