Today at about 3:10pm EST (now 6:36PM EST) I bought 5-6 games from the two sales ongoing. One of them was the "Police Quest Collection" for $4 which I mistakenly thought contained "Police Quest: SWAT 1+2", which is what I was really after and which I've realized is *only* sold separately. (for 3.99 USD as well).

I bought the collection and immediately started downloading from the browser window when I saw the file size/name and kind of froze wondering if there was a mistake. I quickly confirmed there was and halted the download within about 30 seconds (I think), with nowhere near any of it completed.

I put in a support ticket 3 hours ago (3:23PM EST) with this information but I've learned they likely won't respond until well after the sale ends and I'm looking for advice. I've seen the terms of use where it says the sale is final once you initiate a download of anything.

Is there any record of leniency on their part if you immediately notice your mistake and do not come anywhere near completing the download? Especially since I don't really want a refund, I just want the Collection removed from my account (I'm not at all interested in these adventure titles) and SWAT 1+2 added (they are the same price, both $4 on sale, $10 off sale). I've bought over 30 games and have been a member for almost 2.5 years, with no need for support or any kinds of mistakes/disputes like this.

I understand the reason behind making the sale final upon download, but since these games are DRM-free, if I were really the sort of person who would steal from GOG or the publisher I could just find a perfect torrent of this game rather than following an elaborate scheme to come out $4 ahead.

Thanks for your help.

As far as I know, all GOG can see is that you initiated the download. They can't see whether or not you completed it, or how much of it you downloaded.

That said, they are marvellous guys, and have been known to go to great lengths to help their customers. Whether they will do the swap you want, I cannot say however.

Thanks for your reply. I thought maybe their support people are only presented with information on "initiated" (and when) or "not initiated", but that if they (or more technical people) cared to dig deeper they might be able to confirm that I only connected for about 30-60 sec and downloaded just a couple megabytes.

I thought my account might also be established and trouble-free enough to make a one-time exception to this policy, since even if I were lying, I could probably only do this once per established account. Add to that the fact that I'm not even asking for changes in payment made, rather just swapping licenses between two games from the same publisher and franchise that both cost the same, though I realize that might still present difficulties for them as well. I honestly would never even play the Police Quest 1-4 (5?) adventure games if they just decided to let me keep them and gift me "Police Quest: SWAT 1+2" in some extraordinary fit of generosity. I've even seen SWAT on sale before and couldn't be persuaded to gamble on them until just now.
