yyahoo: It disgusts me nowadays how difficult to near impossible it is to repair computers with faulty components. Motherboards have gotten particularly bad. They just don't make some components for more than a year or two. If you want an actual replacement for a 1 to 2 year old motherboard, well, it sucks to be you. You pretty much have to completely rebuild a new computer instead.
No you just have to know how to scout the internet. Use amazon.com, eBay, or even pricegrabber and you can find anything.

SimonG: And on a related note, I am so happy this is 2012 and not 2002. I have my dissertation saved on a remote desktop. Holy crap. Push comes to shove, there is hardly any data lost in general. Personal data in spideroak, savegames on Steam/Origin cloud, personal windows settings saved with Win 8, bulk data (pictures, shows, music) on external HD.
Wow finally someone who know how to backup their stuff. I'm in the computer/networking field and it seems NO ONE, except a few companies realize they need to pack up their stuff.

I forgot to add that I also got my Firefox synced. Which makes this a lot easier. And that is probably also the reason I'm so relaxed with all this.

(And my personal data is on Spideroak and Dropbox, as I just noticed.)

Edit: The only real issue is that I'm back on Windows XP. Boy, that baby has gotten old ....

I tried using Spideroak but their upload speed was horrible, even for a cloud service. I use Wuala for back up and Dropbox for some.

I was going to recommend a PSU that's modular as the numerous cables are annoyingly in the way especially if you only need one or two. For your setup I would have picked this: Corsair HX620W

Okay, maybe better stated, what you can find is not worth the price most are charging for it. You might as well buy a new computer instead. And I am not cool with buying used computer components... It's hardly ever worth the risk.

I had a similar issue once, and the PSU was the problem.

As for the new power supply, anything above 600W whould be fine even with a powerful PC, unless you want to go for a dual-GPU solution (SLi, Crossfire, dual-GPU cards). Even 550W should be fine, as long as it is from a reliable manufacturer (Antec, Corsair, Thermaltake).

Like Ninth mentioned, i would prefer a modular PSU, because it allows proper cable management, thus making the air flow better.
