I played chess a long time ago, but the one that I really like and still have is chessmaster 10th edition, but 9000 version is also great. Fritz I played at a friends place it was a little bit too hardcore my taste, but awesome never the less when it comes to semi-pro players and upwards.

Whoops, forgot to say that I'm in for Escape Goat, if I may. Thx :)

I've been a bit busy this weekend, but I'll wrap this one up tomorrow. Others are welcome to enter until I close the draw tomorrow, most likely by noon (Eastern US time.) Enjoy your day, folks!

*CLOSED*

Thanks for the help, everyone! After looking into all of the suggestions given, I'm on a mission to find a physical copy of Chessmaster XI Grandmaster Edition, as well as a copy of Majestic Chess, as they both look like great fun, and may well consider Chess 2 if the AI is improved for single player in the near future. Honestly, I'm excited enough about the new rules that I may get it soon anyway and consider multiplayer on Steam. It's not often I'll consider multiplayer gaming, but this may become one of my exceptions. I'm keeping the Fritz games in mind for if and when I get more serious about playing, or as a back up plan if I'm unable to get my hands on the Chessmaster title. I'm also going to play around with some open source chess engines and such to see how I like that side of things. I haven't played chess regularly enough to say I play seriously, but I imagine I'd play daily if I had a good enough chess game, especially if it adapted to my skill level and helped me clean up my game some. It's a damn shame I can't convince my wife to play. She plays video games with me though, so I can't complain. :)

Okay, after putting all the entrants' names on pieces of paper, putting the papers in a hat, throwing the hat in a nearby river, then calling a local psychic for help, I've got winners to announce:

Neverwinter Nights Gold Edition (GOG) - DrakoPensulo
Escape Goat (Steam) - plex0m4n
Dark Scavenger (Steam) - Sorapak
Reign Maker (Steam) - Ragnarblackmane
Ballpoint Universe: Infinite (Steam) - enigmaxg2

edit: All prizes sent by PM! Enjoy, and thanks again!

Not in.

I don't really know of any. I can say the only chess game I've played was something that was preinstalled on the computer at school.

Apparently it's possible to lose in 3-4 moves.

awalterj: Playing with a physical chess set is a lot more fun
Downside is that it does usually require another person (or two chess sets and a way to communicate). It also requires you to know the rules well enough to spot illegal moves yourself.

LOL and thank you very much. Congrats to the other winners.

Hope you find a physical copy of Chessmaster and finally get to yell "the King is dead" !!

FYI : I should point out that term checkmate comes from a Persian phrase "shāh māt" and means "the King is dead"
Yay!
