GameRager: I LOVED Tex Murphy 1: Mean Streets, and remember playing it in Dos in Win98......ah, those were the days. Searching for codes and clues and shooting crooks in little shootout sequences....and the mutants. Oh, the mutants.........someday I should buy and play it again, and the other ones as well. I hear tell they're very good.
Me too. It was state-of-the-art technology when it came out. I remember being impressed as hell when I saw that voice was possible with the crude PC speaker. I had a crude CGA monitor at the time, and yet it looked so damn good - my monitor supported only 4 colors and somehow they arranged the pixels carefully to make it appear like 16 colors to the eye. It was even optimized to take advantage of multiple floppy drives to minimize disk changing without having to append the drives yourself.

Of course, it also supported VGA & sound blaster, but I had a low-end system at the time.

I loved the Bladerunner-like setting, the nice puzzles, and the humor in the game as well. They've aged pretty well and you can get them pretty cheap now.

GameRager: Yeah, the phone stuff and the ending thing puzzle with all the codes was awesome...I literally was biting my nails entering each one as quick as possible.
I loved the whole mutants vs. "normals" thing going on.....it was a good poigant yet subtle reference to racial tensions throughout history I think.
Haha I remember I had all the passwords neatly written down and yet I was in a panic. I remember shouting at my bro to read them out to me quickly before the laser guns perforated my head:)

I enjoyed the part about the mutants as well, though I was not old enough to understand the reference.
But seriously guys. I might be drunk while I'm writing this, but even I, in this state, can see that there's nothging to be gained by boycotting this site. More so, there's even more to lose by doing it
My life pretty much sucks and what joy I get is mainly from games. There is zero chance of stop buying games from Gog or anywhere else for the hell of it. If the prank hurt you so much over the 2-3 days that you want to hurt them back for 1-2 MONTHS, then you are in even worse condition than I am and you really, really, REALLY need to get out more or have some sex. If you are underage, go for some basketball, it's a great game to relieve sexual pressure, just don't play too tight defense, just in case.

I was upset with Gog, but upset so that I deliberately try to damage their livelihood, and that for two months? That's just nasty, rude and very no freaking way.
This would work like MW2 boycot on Steam
Dont got money to spend on games right now anyways.

Marketing could bring good or bad conseguences so if it will hurt their livelihood that has to be taken into account.
I think I made my reasons clear in the first post.
The message to pass is that not anything is tolerable for the sole purpose of get much income and that such behaviour should change. If that was stupidity or just bad decision I'm not in position to judge (even though the feeling is that they acted more like kids instead of people running a business, for the way they considered the conseguences and the respect for the customes).
I suggested 1-2 month because I thought that it could be a good amount and there's no way they could go out of business for that. 2 days like the number of days they closed the service would be more ratherly unnoticeable based on the purchases usually made on this site. I also suggested that everyone should do what they see more fit.
Again I don't say the service should close, I like it too (been there from the start), but neither I say that it should stay up at any condition only because than I could get more games.
The goal however is to send a message, not to boycott the service and make it close.
A little loss in income would make them realize that stunt like that could even go bad and that people here don't like that. Otherwise the lesson would be "we did wrong, people still like us, we can do whaterver we want".
If this thing will nullify in part what the stunt made, I think should be considered a good result. Than they could come back at doing what they are doing in a more honest way.

MaxwellKraft: Also, for every game you don't buy I'm going to buy three.
Oh yeah well for every game that you buy, I'm gonna non-buy those games 15 times.

Your move brainiac

Tsunami: That would be a very dumb idea.
Where have you been the last few days? They've already clarified that it was a misunderstanding - their intentions were to ENTERTAIN US while also generating publicity for the site. They also DID NOT REALIZE that they were inconveniencing anyone by taking the service down for a few days, since the games are not bundled by DRM and do not depend on the site's availability (assuming you have already downloaded the games) .
Bunk. They say they did not realize it; so the two options here are that they are really, really stupid morons, or really, really sleazy liars. I don't think GOG staff are stupid, and so far did not think they were liars. Oh well.

Tsunami: People were upset because they thought GOG was being inconsiderate by generating publicity by inconveniencing them. Others, like myself, were upset because we defended GOG, saying that there was no way they would be inconsiderate towards us, and then were "proven wrong" (it appeared that they intentionally inconvenienced us, whereas they did not realize that they were doing so).
Yes, because obviously the ability to re-download your purchases was not a feature people were using anyway -- why offer it at all, really?

Tsunami: Now that they've already clarified their intentions, told us that they will be careful that their future marketing tactics do not negatively affect us in any way, and even apologized, it's very counterproductive to call for a boycott.
Let us move on, please.
As before, actions speak louder than words. I'll "move on" when I start believing that gog.com is not beholden to only its, obviously quite inconsiderate, marketing people.

I may buy more games, I may not -- but I am definitely gonna think about it quite a bit more, now. Maybe in aggregate, GoG will be taught a valuable lesson by this.
OR, you can grow up, stop buying games from gog or not stop buying games from gog, let it go, and live your rest of your life without so much anger and try to relax a bit. I didn't like what they did, but I am not going to let it cause me ulcer or something, Seriously, you are way way way over reacting over this, Take a break,

This is the internet sir! Moderate suggestions and mature behaviour will not be tolerated!

Lets lynch him whilst calling him names!
I for one wont follow that course of action. At least not on purpose. If a game I want pops up I'm grabbing it. If not I will just be hanging out and reading forums. So it's business as usual. Before all this happened I hadn't bought anything since MOO, and I was just lurking.
Last Sunday, when I for a bit thought that GOG was gone I was terribly upset; not because I had lost access to my games (all are backed up save GK3), but because I was genuinely sad that this bastion of PC gaming and passion for games looked to be going away.

The thought that I might not be able to download GK3 was a bit annoying, but they did seem to work on allowing me to get it. If not, then I thought that one game was not a disaster to lose, even if it was part of a series.

Then I read a bit into the whole situation and came to the conclusion that it might all be a prank. It turned out it was. And what glorious prank! I was elated that GOG would remain, that I could still buy more games and that I could keep on being part of what I think of as an adventure. GOG reminds me why I love PC gaming. (They also remind me of PC gaming marketing in the '90s. Romero couldn't have done this better. Retro games and retro silly marketing.)

So I'll keep being a happy customer and I would buy BG in a heart beat if I didn't already own it thrice on discs. Though come to think of it there might be some sweet extra loot in the GOG version. To the store page!

Anyway, I can't follow your "test".

Edit: it seems that I'm mostly interested in the sound track. Not quite enough to make a buy. Sad face is in order.

After 2 month I'm stopping this test.
I have to say that seeing what happened since then and what GoG had up his sleeves (blackisle/bioware catalog, contests, promotion, witcher2 digital preorder, ect.) I see even less reason to pull that unfamous pr stunt. They did good and are doing well so where was no reason to be that evil (or greedy).
Saying that I start buying again and see what'll happen (even though I don't like what I heard about the incostincensy of their drm-free philosopy and the evil idea of suing people that pirate the witcher 2).
