Few of you, perhaps, have heard of Brian Jacques. A kind and gentle man who wrote because he loved to tell stories, his Redwall books are enchanting tales of heroism and adventures, sacrifice and bravery. More than perhaps any other writer he shaped who I am and who I want to be. It was Redwall that kept me up at night, reading with a flashlight under the covers to discover what lay ahead for Matthias. Christmas, for me, was eagerly anticipating that thick, blocky package under the tree, desperately hoping that a new Redwall adventure waited for me. I am twenty two years old, about to be twenty three, and that feeling has never left me. I've outgrown almost every book I read as a child, yet somehow Redwall still remains my favorite.
Brian Jacques has passed away. According to a few articles I found, he died quickly of an aortic aneurysm - fitting for a man that did not need to die a lingering death. I am sitting here with tears in my eyes; I cannot believe that Redwall is done. I wanted to pay my respects for Mr. Jacques, and ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Rest in peace, Mr. Jacques - Mossflower will miss you.
