Few of you, perhaps, have heard of Brian Jacques. A kind and gentle man who wrote because he loved to tell stories, his Redwall books are enchanting tales of heroism and adventures, sacrifice and bravery. More than perhaps any other writer he shaped who I am and who I want to be. It was Redwall that kept me up at night, reading with a flashlight under the covers to discover what lay ahead for Matthias. Christmas, for me, was eagerly anticipating that thick, blocky package under the tree, desperately hoping that a new Redwall adventure waited for me. I am twenty two years old, about to be twenty three, and that feeling has never left me. I've outgrown almost every book I read as a child, yet somehow Redwall still remains my favorite.

Brian Jacques has passed away. According to a few articles I found, he died quickly of an aortic aneurysm - fitting for a man that did not need to die a lingering death. I am sitting here with tears in my eyes; I cannot believe that Redwall is done. I wanted to pay my respects for Mr. Jacques, and ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Rest in peace, Mr. Jacques - Mossflower will miss you.
I heard about his death yesterday. I too loved Redwall when I was younger. I read all of them all through Elementary School, though eventually outgrew them by about 6th grade. They were some of my favorites at the time though and I am glad I read them.

That's the one with Finnbarr Galedeep right? God... So many good books - I honestly can't think of a bad one he's written.

Oh no... He will be missed. I haven't read a Redwall book since... The Taggarung maybe, but his books were a big part of my childhood. If/when I have children I will read the series to them, screw Harry Potter.

Finnbarr Galedeep is from The Bellmaker, which is one of the very few he wrote that had recurring characters (Mariel of Redwall and The Bellmaker). My copies of both of those are in tatters from all the times I've reread them.

Same here! I can't wait to read them to my kids (or nieces and nephews, or random kids on the street...errr no wait, that could get me arrested).

That's right, the Bellmaker.

Man I'm so gutted.

Last year I went into this small town second-hand bookstore and to my delight found the whole redwall saga bar three books for a dollar each. I immediately bought them all. Best $14 I ever spent.

Rest in peace Brian Jacques. May the Rosyqueen sail you beyond the horizons.
