POLE7645: Uncompressed audio files for 20 languages. Seriously, that's the only reason.
Wow... you know personally I only know how to speak one language so having 19 copies in a form I can't use seems useless...

Makes me think back to installers for programs that ask you extra features you want to install, and one of them is language options or extra optional features... I'll guess steam auto-installs all languages and doesn't give you the option to only install the one(s) relevant for you...

POLE7645: Someone looked at the files for Titanfall and the reason the game is this big is...

Uncompressed audio files for 20 languages. Seriously, that's the only reason. They stated that this did it like this because they wanted to save CPU power (that would be used for audio decompression). Logic states that a CPU that can't handle doing some audio decompression probably won't be able to run this game.

And (to quote TV tropes where they mentioned this game under "Idiot programming") with separate installers for languages and a bit of compression, the game could fit on a quarter of it's current weight.

But it's true that games needs more and more disk space. Just look at the recent Kickstarter-backed games.

- Divinity: Divine Origins: Around 10 GB (not too bad. A bit less than most games nowadays).
- Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure: 15 BG (understandable since the FMVs are now in HD)
- Wasteland 2: 20 GB according to the system requirements (apparently because the art assets are in HD. It surprised me because this game won't contain a lot of voice acting).

These are those I can think on the top of my head. Then again, Dragon Age: Origins (without any DLC or the expansion) required 20 GB and that was a 2009 game.
Shogun 2 needs something like 30 GB.
Then again, that's supposed to have individual unit animations and designs, so I guess that's understandable.

The best thing would be an option to download the base files + the languages that you like and then build your custom iso with a simple setup..

True... But i'm willing to bet no matter how you have access to the game, you won't have any option(s) to customize the install... Considering steam doesn't give you install files (or subsequent language packs), and you can't just remove portions from the disc if you get them for your XBone....

I'll hope GoG never adds TitanFall to their catalog due to the mess and size of the downloads, it would probably hog far more bandwidth than it's worth...
Wow and I thought Bioshock Infinite was pretty huge with its size being around 42gb (this is including all the dlc)

D:OS was about a 6.3 GB download when first released on GOG. A lot of the bloat comes from Larian since including separate voice files for each language. This would make some sense, except that the audio is all in English regardless of the text language...

Once installed, it is 10 GB large, even back then (the download is now 8.7 GB). The installer are compressed for obvious reasons.
Well, though I rarely am a multiplayer kind of guy, I bit the bullet, downloaded the game and, well, had a blast playing it so far.

I wish I would take some time and experiment with the various weapons, but I'm just too happy playing with the Smart Pistol (with the auto targeting system) and the Sidewinder. I also tend to break shields and punch the heck out of the enemy Titans, because punches, of course.

The only game type I played was Attrition, but it was chaotic fun most of the time.

Also, I love the attention to detail in many things, like the moment you enter the Titan and everything boots up.

Unemployment matters aside, I'm not entirely sure I'd buy it without proper bot matches like good old UT.

Anyway, I enjoyed the free game time. :)

Ps.: Pretty easy to go up levels, eh? According to Origin I played 4 hours and already am level 21.
