Shadowstalker16: As to the earlier argument, doesn't it give you the right to be heard? I don't know from which country that is, but I've read about a right to be heard, and that seems like an essential tenant to me.

CharlesGrey: "A right to be heard"? For that to work, wouldn't you have to force others to listen? Because a right to be heard doesn't really mean much, when no one cares for what you have to say. :P
Indeed. You have the right to speak, just as much as others have the right to not listen.
Some of the channels I subscribe to were already working on moving to http://www.minds.com/. This will probably just make the move quicker.

I was talking about youtube's nature on the internet as a platform. That if youtube is the only place where everyone is at, whether it is significant at all that you can express yourself elsewhere. Ie, are you talking into an empty room or in a place where no one could hear you even if they wanted to. Basically, what I said in post #13 but am repeating anyway.
Vimeo is tiny at game related stuff (they don't even have that category there). Definitely not the place to search for Let's plays, walkthroughs, etc.
Dailymotion at least has that category, so it's not so bad.
Metacafe I won't even bother talking about =p
Unfortunately you can't compete with YouTube in content, it's insane how popular it got.
So yeah, it seems we are stuck with YouTube for a few more decades lol.

Swearing causes kiddies to be unsafe and turns them into metal-heads right? Do they know they're on the internet? Enforcement of these guidelines will retard youtube to the level of reddit or further. AFAIK vimeo doesn't allow gaming content right? Dailymotion seems to be the only semi-legit option. Unless someone wants to come with a startup alternative to milk this like they did with reddit and voat.
I'm sorry, but for once I really don't see a problem, certainly not attack on free speech. Freedom of speech does not mean tha law guarantees you will get ad money for saying what you want to say.

I believe that officially, yes, it is a significant difference whether you can express yourself elsewhere or not. It again comes back to the question whether a private company (or even the government) has a legal obligation to give you a platform with an exposure minimum of x views. The fact that there ARE alternatives, less popular and less accessible they may be, is a significant factor in the difference between a right and a luxury.
This might become interesting for every second subscribed channel I watch, as most of them have at least a few sex related jokes in there every once in a while, and certainly some profanity per minute. All of a sudden, PG-13 as far as the eye can see.

Then again, most might probably just put more emphasis on patreon and carry on as per usual.

I'll echo the voice of reason in this discussion that, effectively, nothing has changed.

This is based on tags, and even before no advertisers put their ads on videos with tags like "murder", or "rape", so these videos never made any significant money. Granted, now they'll make none at all, but the difference is small.

Finally. You are free to say whatever you want, no one should take away your platform, but also no one is forced to sponsor you by giving you money for it.

I remember reading some years ago that Vimeo actually bans that category entirely.
