I do use walkthroughs, when I'm seriously stuck. It really depends on the game though, how fast I whip out DuckDuckGo. If it has moon logic and pixel hunting all over the place I'll be really impatient with it. Whereas the old Legend games have reliable logic behind them, so I really try to figure out things on my own.

I have used cheats when I felt extremely frustrated by a single scene in a game. That's really rare though and happens maybe once in ten years. The last occasion was the incredible stupid end boss of Two Worlds 2 - a game I otherwise liked quite a lot.

I've come to actually like the HOGs (like, the Artifex Mundi games). And with all the help features on. Really nice when you're just trying to relax. I hope GOG will bring in a few more soon.

TheMonkofDestiny: Final Fantasy VIII is my favorite numbered entry in that series. The two games after it killed my enjoyment of it.
Where does Final Fantasy 2 rank in your ranking of Final Fantasy games?

(It's actually in second place for that, even though there are some serious balance and pacing issues with the game, but then again I've heard FF8 isn't exactly balanced well either.)

TheDudeLebowski: Is that like the "turbo" button of old?
avatar
dtgreene: No, not the one found on old computers.

It's more like the turbo button on a controller, except that it's mouse input that's being repeated, and the repeat rate was a lot slower (but still enough to keep clicking while AFK for a bit).

Then again, I didn't use it for the primary "click to get something from nothing" way, but more to automate a purchase (with in-game resources, not real money).
Yeah, I meant the one on controllers.
My sin: I think Zelda and Metroid two boring and overrated series.

So, in terms of relaxation, how would you say HOGs compare to the likes of, say, idle clickers?

Many people don't think of either of these genres when they think of "games", but they are definitely games, and there's good and bad design in them. (Idle clickers, for example, can have balance issues just like many other types of games.)

I don't think I own any idle clickers. So I probably never tried any. Is there any you would recommend (DRM-free only)?
My biggest gaming sin, collecting all those ridiculously over priced Brandygames and Prima guides they usrd to produce. Still got one hell of a collection of them, all of Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Witcher, Grand Theft Auto, Far Cry, Deus Ex... There useless for any help on the games as well as their out of date after the first few patches or DLC.

Ok, here's a big one: I've never played Deus Ex! :O

I confess.

I never got round to it, but I've heard so much about it. It's next on my 'to play' list, after finishing Divinity: Original Sin 1 and FTL. I hope it lives up to the hype (it was made before 2005, so it probably will).

The home of idle clickers is the Web, as the two that I've encountered are both played via a web browser.

As for the two that I have played:

Cookie Clicker: https://orteil.dashnet.org/cookieclicker/
* This is the famous one that started the genre. It's a rather long game, with people letting it run for months or even years. It also features big numbers (you can realistically get your cookie count into the octillions and beyond).

CivClicker: http://civclicker.sourceforge.net/civclicker/civclicker.html (for the version I'm playing)
* This one is a lot more involved, as you have several resources to worry about, and you could have ti deal with things like starvation or attacking wolves. It's shorter, but much faster paced.
* It's also GPL, and might be easier to run it without an internet connection (though the loss of an internet connection won't break a running instance of Cookie Clicker either).

Glaucos: My sin: I think Zelda and Metroid two boring and overrated series.
I'm your sister in sin then, lol.
I do own a few Zeldas for consoles, tried others and never really got into it. Zelda 1 is bad (Golden Axe Warrior is better when it comes to that style, it basically takes Zelda and improves everything), Zelda 2 is no fun, Zelda - Link to the Past is probably the best, the GB/GBC Zelda is more of the same, the N64 Zelda is...all i remember is running endlessly around green fields and now i'm simply too old to play with a pointy-eared leaf lover

And Metroid, i don't even know what's great about it.

For me personally: Final Fantasy. I call it Final Craptasy. I suffered through 7 for a few hours and hated it. I played some others and hated it. Everything is too japanese, too unfun grind, the stories are dumb, the characters suck. Everybody loves them and here i am wondering why. and how.

To this Day is also never understand what's so great about Quake. Quake 1 back in the day already came across like an archaic shooter to me. Compared to Duke Nukem 3D the environments are non-interactive except for a few elevators, there are no NPCs, there's nothing that has the fun of Duke, blowing up buildings, using a pool table, paying hookers and all that.
Quake 2 was just...what? It had nothing to do with Quake 1, it was totally unrelated and a pretty boring sci-fi shooter, way behind Unreal and Half-Life
Quake 3 Arena...i was with the Unreal Tournament crowd
Quake 4 is another mediocre game, kinda like Unreal 2, just boring.
But everybody calls them classics, milestones, whatnot. Just because of the graphics?!

And my biggest "sin": I bought a game on Epic Games Store, lol.

ShadowAngel.207: But everybody calls them classics, milestones, whatnot. Just because of the graphics?!
I don't recall ever seeing anyone refer to Quake IV as a classic or a milestone.
I have sinned in a new way. (Well, not really, because my belief system doesn't have a concept of "sin", but you get the idea.)

I have programmed a microcontroller (think something like Arduino) to pretend to be a USB mouse and send a large amount of click events. Furthermore, I have used it to cheat in an auto-clicker.

(By the way, I remember reading about somebody who used a similar trick to cheat in Super Mario Odyssey's jump rope minigame. Furthermore, I am wondering if one could play back a TAS this way.)
If god is dead, everything is permitted.

If everything is permitted, there are no (gaming) sins.

God is dead, ergo there are no (gaming) sins.
Used some wow shadowlands boost by lfcarry ahaha in WoW
