It'd be nice if they restricted them to the ones that i got wishlisted. If i didn't wishlist it, i'm obviously not waiting for a discount.
I got a couple of those messages. Most of them were already expired, though.

Right? It's when they start sending you crap you've shown no interest in, then it most definitely counts as spam imo.

SpikedWallMan: The discounts from the newsletter are often insanely better than their standard sale prices.
100% agreement with that statement.
That's also the only reason I opted out of opting out of email notifications.

IMO only way to resolve this issue is to mark those emeils at your email provider as a SPAM. The next emails at your inbox will go directly to spam folder and over time, when enough people do the same their email sending domain will be blocked by most of the major email providers (google, aws, microsoft).
When i created my account years back i have agreed to some of their notifications - they seemed reasonable - one email once a week and major updates. Within short time a have noticed that this was not true and i have been receiving emails almost every day. I HAVE TURNED OF EVERY NEWSLETTER NOTIFICATION and since then they were gone...

... until 2 moths back when i have purchased something at their store. Since then i started to receive new SPAM emails from them EVERY DAY!
Today I've checked and all of my notifications were ON and i am 100% sure that they were not turned on by me.

This is spam by both common and legal (PL) definition:
- big amount of emails that you didn't want to receive
- ANY commercial value email that you didn't agreed to receive

Unfortunately even legal definition is worthless because almost no one is willing to go to court over this an big companies are very aware of this. Because of this the don't feel to respect their customers will in this regards.

Their is no repercussions for them for those kind of malicious actions... unless at some point their emails stops working.
Imagine new customer that wants to create new account and spend some money at gog.com but they can't because they don't get confirmation email from them. This creates some kind of frustration aimed at GOG/CDPR because you want to buy something and you can't. Maybe you'll try one more time but when you don't get this important email second time, you'll just go somewhere else to buy your game.

OK, TBH this will not happen but i am quite convinced that it have already happened in the past. They used to send newsletter from the same email server as their main emails and those new spams have new sending domain (email2.gog.com instead of email.gog.com) and are sent through separate email server so even if it will be blocked, their main domain will be safe. Unless you report this as spam as well :)

felixsylvaris: "Your exclusive discount" mails are manace. I never asked for this. And i am not interested.
Yeah i stopped nearly all email from GoG because of this. Don't even bother posting the coupon codes anymore.
20 emails from GOG in 2 weeks about all sorts of stuff. Most of which has no interest for me. So much for an email every Friday.

Discount codes which you have to redeem to see what they give you, because it's "exclusive".

Emoji-filled childish subject lines.

Clickbait titles.

How far you've slipped, GOG. I'm on Fanatical, Humble and GMG lists and none of them take the mickey like you guys do these days. Sick of it.

felixsylvaris: Annoying potencial client is not a win win.
They are literally giving a discount below historical lows.
They have to do it privately, just like when stores say add to cart to see price. It's too low to advertise.
I've purchased several games because I was both interested and they had historical lows and/or bundles.

Frostpunk GOTY
Dusk/Amid Evil bundle
Etc.

Just because you don't know how to manage your email preferences everyone should lose out?
I really don't understand you people.
This is one of the few things they do correctly. Personal touch email for a discount.
Not a reply to our twitter account for a chance to join some stupid contest.

AtomicHaggis: poo poo pee pee
So disable them.
There's three typical sales a week, why would you expect only 1 email a week.

I think it is fair to say the descriptions on the settings page are out of date.
Promotions and hot deals
Sent once a week on Fridays, or whenever we're launching a bigger, themed promotion.

Releases and Announcements
Sent on occasion, when we have something really big to announce.
In practice, I seem to get quite frequent e-mails, including discount reminders sometimes.
The last one I got was particularly exclusive:

"Your exclusive discount: This game is not available in Germany."

How nice of GOG to think of me! ;P
I used it once. Got baldurs gate EE 1 and 2 and the new thingy release.. 1.5. It was for a damned low price.\

They offered me Elex at an attractive price but the price has since went lower in sales.

Wish they'd offer it for games I own in steam. Theres some I wouldn't mind having on gog too.
