Whenever your game updates, it makes a new shortcut on the desktop, so if you keep all your game shortcuts in one folder you need to copy and paste it everytime.
It's not a problem for me but I see your point as some programs like to place a new icon there after a big update and I usually just delete it.
I just always remove the new one it makes. I have shortcuts linked straight to the .exe and the Galaxy ones launch through Galaxy which I don't want.

I would classify it as a minor annoyance.

Yes but I've noticed that sometimes the old shortcut is invalidated and no longer works (I think it's when they change the exe), so you need to copy and paste it to your shortcut folder.
This is not unique to Galaxy. I've had security suites generate a new shortcut every time the program version changed.

Does it bother me? No. It bothers me more when they don't, and I have to manually create or alter a shortcut because a path or target has changed.

There is no reason it would be invalidated unless they change the path where the .exe is located in the update. And in that case, all you have to do is fix the path in the shortcut properties to link to the .exe.
Hmm I never noticed this. Then again I don't use desktop shortcuts that often.
I have not used desktop shortcuts for anything in years. I delete all of them no matter what program creates them. Given the choice - as increasingly is the case - I decline to have them created in the first place.
It's not a problem if you don't use them. Click on them in Galaxy. You have it open anyway.
