Do multiplayer work without Galaxy? I mean like it did on the old disc versions. Yoy could play LAN or simply gibve someone your IP and play over the net.

I heard there is still a small active group playing somewhere and I got the impression that they connected to each other in the old fashioned way. Is it still an option or are the GOG versions altered to work with Galaxy only?

No, they don't require Galaxy. You should still be able to play multiplayer via LAN/Direct IP.
