GameRager: A remaster would be ok if the rights holders allowed it(they might not, but be open to a remake though, so who knows)
avatar
Leroux: Yeah, could be that it's because of that, but that would be a shame, if they have to recreate a perfectly fine game from scratch just because the rights holders prefer to sit on it. All that energy, time and money would be better invested in something new, IMO.
If they do it right and make a good continuation i'd be happy as a clam, though.

Sarang: Gah, we are NOT thieves, why do these assholes think we are?! Say it to our faces.

Mr.Mumbles: Err, okay. Because pulling a game (everywhere) due to expired IP license is the same as calling people thieves. Yeeeeeeeah. I want some of those drugs, too!
No because putting DRM on things assumes you're a thief. I just figured it stayed on Steam(we've had this constantly happen to us before, seeing titles pulled off GOG specifically), regardless a remake is unnecessary though a remaster would be welcomed.
If this isn't the same visual style I'm even less interested.

Not to go too offtopic, but: 1. Adding protection to something(even if unfair/unproductive) doesn't mean the ones doing so consider everyone to be thieves(Like stuff locked behind counters in some stores, for example). It's mainly done to prevent loss/theft by those who would steal such(albeit with DRM it's a tad ineffective, admittedly), not because they think everyone is a thief.

2. Titles pulled off a platform can be done for reasons other than because a platform doesn't allow/support DRM/etc. Licence/contracts with companies can expire or lapse(for various reasons), and other things can lead to games getting pulled.

3. As I said above, i'd be happy as long as it comes out and is faithful to the original(story/characters/levels/mechanics/etc) and we get a continuation.

The problem is 99 times out of 100 the DRM quickly fails and the only people being punished are the legit buyers. I wouldn't complain much if they removed the DRM once it was cracked, so legit buyers don't have to deal with it, but they almost never do that. So it just feels like they're punishing the people who actually support them.

There's been more DRMs that actually prevent piracy lately though.

1. Whichb is why I mentioned it being ineffective in my post. ;)

2. People are often inconvenienced because of the bad ethics(or those rallying against them)(see gun control laws/hate speech laws/self-defense laws/etc), sadly.

3. They know(usually) that people will crack their DRM eventually, so they(some) kinda expect people to do it and don't care if such is done(unofficially, of course).

4. DRMs prevent priacy lately? What planet does that exist on?

(I ask, if a bit sarcastically, because most DRMs usually get defeated in 1-3 days....even faster with leaked releases.)

SirPrimalform: That's not porting to something though, that's implementing third party APIs. If you've ported it to Windows then it's a Windows port regardless of Steam or Galaxy achievements.
Saying it's coming to Windows or to PC is a useless statement to the consumer, as it doesn't tell them if that means a DRM-client (and if so, which one(s)) and/or GOG, etc.

The only sensible way to announce/advertise a game ported to PC is to say what stores, exactly, it will & won't be on.

I agree with the value of knowing what DRM the Windows version will have, I'm talking about when people use "Steam" as a synonym for "Windows PC" as if it's the only way you can get games on the PC.

A thought: Some devs might have agreements to let the clients/stores drop release info particulars for whatever reason. Just a thought.

I agree that is misleading, and that they should use "coming to steam", but they probably do it because Steam is the biggest/most popular so they assume when they say coming to pc most will assume steam.

I don't think this is true really because the vast, vast majority don't care. It's only a very small but very loud minority who would give a crap.

I completely understand why it happens, I just don't like it.

And I get that....I was just explaining why they probably do it. :)
