Just a quick update:
I've been able to put in a few hours per week on this for a while and it's coming together. I'm about 75% done with the first mission. After it's done, other missions will get added much faster since most of the underlying coding and problem solving is done.
I'm hoping to have it done in 4ish months from now, but there's talk my job will move and my son will need another major surgery in 5ish months. Boo! So I bet it'll be delayed a bit.
Also, sorry for less forum presence. Work cut me off! It hurt pretty bad, but I suppose I'm more productive. Boo! :)
The missions planned for now are:
- Defeat an orc camp
- Solve a murder
- Fight your friends a la Hunger Games style
- Raid a temple
- Solve a crypt's mysteries
The way they'll work is that you need to use teamwork for most or all quests. When the quest is finished, a random party member will win the game. Everyone else will get a high-value item.
The entire server will reset intermittently (looking at 6 or 4 hours right now). Each quest is pretty stinkin' hard and many things can happen that can completely ruin your chance of winning. So you will likely encounter each quest many times until you learn lots. Very observant players and players with healthy big teams will have a significant advantage.
After each server reset and after each time you die and each time you log in, you go to 0XP, level 1. You keep your gear.
XP is not gained normally. You can gain XP at very early levels through training and then you can earn more battling in specific XP farming game lands (I have one built now, but more will come. It's a capture the spawn-point flag game with AI orcs - XP gains can get you to lvl 5 if you survive that long).
Most quests are geared toward well-balanced teams of lvl 2-3. But some high-XP characters can help, but you'll be racing against the clock since the server resets every 4-6 hours.
Of course, there's a metric ton of secrets to find to make the quests far easier. Once you've mastered a quest, you might be able to run it with a friend in just a minute or two. But it'll take a lot of work to get them mastered.
I hope that gets your tummy growling for playing. It should be fun! Hopefully.... ;-P
