So I recently completed Wizardry 6 for the first time and imported my party into Wizardry Gold. I've sunk significant time and leveling into this party only to have JUST discovered that Wizardry Gold had a couple of game breaking bugs. Namely, the fact that Diplomacy didn't work and there were issues importing parties from Gold to Wizardry 8.

Does anyone know if GOG fixed these bugs? I have not been able to find a clear answer, as all the forums I've looked up ultimately led to people complaining about the character portraits in Gold (which I couldn't care less about). If these bugs haven't been fixed, it's going to ruin this playthrough for me, as I've been having my mage increase Diplomacy at the expense of Thaumaturgy for nothing, and the reason I've put up with the grind-slog that is Wizardry 6 and 7 is so I can see these characters through the whole story of the Cosmic Circle arc ending with 8.

If these bugs have not been fixed by GOG or a patch out there, is it at least possible for me to open my save file in the DOS version, or convert it such that I can?

Thanks in advance for any helpful answers.

No, GOG didn't fix the Gold version, so you should play the original DOS version, which you can find under extras - importing characters from Wiz 6 works fine.
You can play your Wizardry Gold saves in the DOS version just fine. In fact I usually create my characters in the windows version to use the stat increase cheat and then transfer them to the DOS version because sitting in front of my computer to reroll characters for half a day isn't as appealing as it used to be. ;)

Good to know. Thanks for the helpful answer. I'm glad I don't have to start over.
Btw GOG has game specific forums. Go to the forum overview and type in Wizardry where it says "Find specific forum".

People rarely check the game specific forums in most cases. Personally I would post questions in both the game specific forum and general forum unless I know the game specific forum is particularly active.

That said the Wizardry forums are active enough that I would post just there.

They shouldn't.

I have imported Wizardry 8 portraits into Wizardry 7 Gold.
Here's the video showing the results and other info.
Download links are in the description.

I really don't get why are the portraits one of the main reasons for not playing the gold version since you can change them...
they are just 256-colour indexed bmps in the game's folder.

Non-human-like skinned portraits were converted automatically to the indexed format, the human-like skinned ones had to be converted manually and painstakingly (because automatic conversion yielded either brown, red, orange or yellow rather than a caucassian skin colour)

Edit: I am not monetizing that video.

Would this method work for the DOS version of Wizardry 7 as well? Or only for Gold?

Thanks for figuring this out and sharing the means of doing so, it is much appreciated!
Why oh why would anyone prefer those pseudo-anime abomination portraits over the pixel-art beauty of the DOS version...
It is the wizardry 8 install that is busted form gog and it is just beginning files which fail... It isn't a game ending issue because serveral people have posted the missing files and it is simple to place them in to your own computer
Can't fix what was broken by design. ;)
