I have done the dontforcemimreqs and the game launches now up to the main menu where I can hear music and see the house but nothing else

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Do you have an AMD card? If so, it might be related to this:-

I have an Intel HD Graphics. ive noticed NWN2 and Witcher both published by Atari, both virtually identical system requirements, and NWN2 runs while Witcher does not. And my graphics card is good enough to run Skyrim on medium settings with no issues. Should handle a 2007 game easily.
Intel cards always had issues with games. Their drivers are worse than Ati/AMDs
In all honesty, Intel's graphics drivers have come a long way from the bottom of the pit they rotted in but still quite a way to go.

You hopefully know of the subforum for the game: https://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher

Can also try running the game in Win 7 Compatibility mode.
