I picked a ton of games and added some of my own but none of them showed up in my wish list and i didn't get that sweet xp i was after. I must have voted for about 20 at least and added some as well.

You must have done something wrong, try again.

There might be a slight delay before they appear in your whislist. The first time I used it it took almost half an hour...

No idea what you mean by "voted for", but voting has nothing to do with adding games to your wishlist, as far as I know.
Just hit the "wishlist it" button on the game page, then refresh or (re)open your wishlist page. Perhaps it takes a while due to server load, so check back again a bit later?

You weren't 'voting for' games on the community wishlist, by any chance...?
