TheCleaner517: Worth the free upgrade? Been hearing it sucks for gaming.
That's nonsense. If at all, the games run a bit smoother now.
When it comes to compatibility ... no difference to Windows 10.

I'm using it for 2 months now, there has not been a single game that would not run at all or run worse than it did on Windows 10.

BreOl72: Fun fact: people have been hearing "the new windows sucks for gaming" since the introduction of the first windows.
Yeah :) It took me a while to give Windows a chance, I was a DOS-Jockey.
What finally convinced me, was Jedi Knight. That was also what I bought a 3Dfx card for.

And let's be honest. It was a lot less work to use a Voodoo card with Windows for all Direct3D games than for DOS where exe-files and/or DLLs had to be replaced.

Edit: I must correct myself: Yes, there IS one problem with Windows 11: If you run DOSBox in Fullscreen (on a 4K monitor), after you end the game the start menu won't work for a while. After some minutes it will work again.
My solution was to set DOSBox to overlay and use a zoom factor which almost fills the entire screen, so I don't have to switch to Fullscreen.

Also - after Far Cry 6 crashed - the task manager would not load anymore - which is bad. But that only happened once, so I would not say it's a reguar thing. It shows however that it IS possible to mess up the task manager - which should not be possible.

I beg to differ, Shadow of the tomb raider ran like crap for me..had to go to an earlier version via a patch to play it again hopefully its fixed in the future.

Last time I tried it run fine on my PC. I'll give it another try, but I don't expect any different results.

"had to go to an earlier version via a patch" ... did you also play the latest Version on widnows 10 or did you run an older version on Windows 10?

ps: I have only found ONE program so far, that would not run with Windows 11 and that's the BIOS updater for Windows. When I start it, it tells me to get the newest version - which I already have. I guess we see TPM in action here.

Played the latest one on 10 ran fine but 10 gave so many issues had to upgrade to 11 ever since doing so had to run a patch to go back down a version to be able to play...didnt take away from the overall experience since the latest one only added dlc which i wasnt really to fond of. Played for the story and uninstalled after xD

Thanks. I'll install it later this day (I am currently not at home).

Minor typo there, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is crap. So no loss there, just play the previous outings.

As for the windows 11 won’t do this or run that, or isn’t as compatible as x, it’s all nonsense really. This has been raised at every release, every new version etc. Any software which is an ongoing update cycle (I.e. almost everything nowadays) is going to have ups and downs requiring patches or fixes, sometimes official, sometimes unofficial. Learn to live with, or go buy a console! Me, I don’t see any value in moving to win 11 at the moment, so I will stay on win 10 which was the previous “nothing runs on this version of windows”, which has as yet, run everything I have thrown at it. Make sure you have the pro version and you will be fine, don’t buy cheap oem versions which are locked down, otherwise expect issues. Also, do some manually cleaning, I.e. don’t have everything installed all the time, cleanup folders and install packages etc. will avoid most issues.
On AMD processors (Ryzen) have a really bad performance I don't know If they haven't fixed yet but I installed when it came out, after a week I went back to windows 10. First impression was a clean UI and better responsive times.

SkelettalAngel: No problem.
Well, I didn't have any problem.I run it with DX12 at 4k/144Hz/VSync off, DLSS set to quality, HDR on, every setting on Ultra (or as high as possible) and it run just fine. The benchmark gave me 80fps average.I installed it accidentaly on my hard drive instead of my SSD, so reloading might have caused a frame drop at some point. But overall I had no reason to complain.
I guess I am the lucky one.

@zDesensitized I use a Ryzen 3900x as well, can't complain.
The file explorer is a mess however, it often has a complete lock for a couple of seconds. Also there are some forced pauses which Windows 10 didn't have. If you right click in file explorer there is a pause, only then the new context menu is shown with an animation. If you instead press the keyboards context menu key, the old menu is shown instantly.
The search file functionality (F3 in file explorer) also requires you to take your time and think about what you want to search for. With DosBox you can make the start menu unusable for a few minutes, if you switch to full screen. Also it has some issues with what application should be in front, depending on which API is used.
Since this is not related to games (well, except dosbox maybe), I didn't mention it in previous posts. However the UI does need some work, that's for sure.

TheCleaner517: Worth the free upgrade? Been hearing it sucks for gaming.
Using 11 Pro for over a month now myself, having tested and played many games on it, both old and new, they all worked and performed very well. There have been problems with some games, but they were unrelated to the OS. Gothic 3 was the only exception so far - it just doesn't work and it's an engine problem. It may have taken some time getting used to some of the changes which hasn't taken very long. It is the most stable OS since 2000 or 7 and except the privacy-settings-nightmare there is nothing for me to complain about.

That said, my recommendation would be to upgrade to 11 only if you are about to make major changes to your hardware or if you truly feel you must. If 10 works there should be no reason to switch to 11 right now. With a Windows 7 Ultimate, 8.1 Pro or 10 Pro key you can always still upgrade or perform a fresh installation which is what I would recommend for free, so there is no need to rush it.

SkelettalAngel: In my opinion, it's a matter of preference. For me I've had so many problems with Windows 10 I was forced to upgrade to 11 ever since upgrading I haven't had a single issue. I would strongly recommend waiting a few years maybe then all the issues and bugs as well as optimizations nasties would've been ironed out enough to be considered safe and well gaming friendly. I personally dislike the fact that TPM and secure boot is needed for the OS considering the vast majority of users will not even give a flying rats ass about it and run older hardware that is perfectly fine. LONG STORY SHORT..

Upgrade if you wanna =) You can always roll back to windows 10 if you dont like it.

Wolf904: Windows 11 runs fine for me.

Most of the GOG fanboys run toasters from 2003 that can't update to Windows 11, so they say it's crap because they don't want anybody else to install it either.

Have fun getting your obsolete Windows 7 PC's hacked and bank details stolen. XD

That's nice.

How about saying something NOT completely retarded now?

SkelettalAngel: Or how about, giving constructive advice on what the OP wanted? instead of being a dick on the internet...By the way windows 7 is the best version of windows for gaming ive ever come across lmao. If people are so concerned about their stuff being broken into there's the option of NOT going on the internet. The way they're pushing windows 11 is just a gimmick at this point and it's practically forced upon the end user.
So, let me get this right...

You're saying that it's best to stick with Windows 7 and NEVER use the internet again, than simply upgrade to Windows 11?

You need to stop smoking that stuff man, but i fear it's already too late. XD
