I have no idea whats going on right now so read these articles and tell me, My computer is not going to turn into Windows 10 is it?

http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/08/30/windows-10-spying-on-windows-7-and-windows-8/

http://www.pcgamer.com/windows-10-is-sneaking-onto-new-windows-7-and-8-installs-without-permission/

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2425381/microsoft-is-downloading-windows-10-to-your-machine-just-in-case

And of course all these comments just says fuck Mircrosoft. All I want to know is as a Windows 7 user, how do I prevent this? I haven not updated in awhile but now I'm scared to update that I might aswell not update at all.

A german IT website said that your Windows don't download the install files for Windows 10 if you turn off auto updates (just do the updates manually - for security reasons). And no, your PC don't install Windows 10 if you don't want it.
Oh one of the latest optional updates did collect some data (like Windows 10). I could link you some german websites but I think you will find the same information in english somewhere.

That's as may be, but the entire pile of Win10 installation files is not an update for Win7, and should not be downloaded to people's machines automatically, auto-updates or not.

I can confirm that this is indeed what happens though. I just checked, and I have the complete Win10 installation files in a hidden folder on my Win7 machine now. I haven't even "reserved my copy" (whatever the fuck that means, it's not like they will run out of copies), so I see absolutely no reason for Microsoft to take up my hard drive space and bandwidth "just in case I someday need it". If I need it, I will get it. Don't fucking push it to my machine without even telling me.

Just take the plunge. Windows 10 is great.

Except that it costs 50 cents per child's account. That really peeved me.

And it has some possible security holes.

And it's sort of cluttered and takes a while to get uncluttered.

But really, overall, I like it. It's fast, light, friendly, easy. And it'll be what you'll be using forever, probably.

I think my next computer will be Minty, though. I haven't fully decided.
It's nothing too serious. By the time that Windows 10 is done with you, you'll have nothing to worry about. >;)

Remove the kb packages in question:

KB3068708 - Update for customer experience and diagnostic telemetry

KB3075249 - Update that adds telemetry points to consent.exe in Windows 8.1 and Windows 7

KB3080149 - This update aligns down-level devices on the same UTC binary that’s released in Windows 10. This update would enable all the down-level devices to receive the software updates, design updates, and additional power and performance tuning.

Run cmd.exe with elevated privileges (right click on cmd.exe and choose "run as administrator") and type (one line at a time):

wusa /uninstall /kb:3068708

wusa /uninstall /kb:3075249

wusa /uninstall /kb:3080149

And while you're at it, you might want to remove Windows activation technologies too:

wusa /uninstall /kb:971033

But would those updates come back regardless?

Anyway how about I do nothing? Easy enough. Not tinkering with my computer that might fuck something up (last time I tinkered with my computer, I fucked a registry that prevents me from uninstalling GOG games)

I have removed them from all my machines, and i have not had any problems whatsoever.

And yes, you have to manually deselect these updates when running windows update next time, or the updates will be installed again.

I just disable windows update totally, and only start it when needed.

Well it is disabled for awhile now and so far I have not seen the "Windows Update" notice nor the Shut Down button does not show the ! mark.

At some point, Microsoft itself became a bigger malware/spyware threat & enemy to me than the malware/spyware threats that they claim to protect us from. Windows Update can fuck right off.

According to this article, while Microsoft did make some changes to CEIP on 7 and 8, it still can be completely turned off unlike on Windows 10.

It's still pretty shitty of them to do it on Windows 10 and to download the Windows 10 installation files on computer with previous O.S. just in case.
