Okay, here's your chance to splurge on those big titles or buy a whole boatload of cheap ones to keep you busy till end times. Winner of this contest gets up to $50 of gog games FREE. It seems I can't gift the winner wallet funds so the only way to do it is for the winner to make a list of games up to $50, I will purchase them as a gift and give them the code. Plus, if you want even more bang for your buck, the only expiration date for claiming your winnings is my death (sorry don't have a specific date on that yet though LOL). Seriously, if I die, I guess I won't be able to fulfill this but that's the only way. I've been here since GoG started and I'll still be here a year from now if I'm still alive, so if you win and want to wait until a big sale (holidays maybe??) to cash in, THAT IS OK TOO! YOUR WINNINGS... YOUR CHOICE.

Now, the RULES... and how to win.

Well, first of all, how to win. Easy. Be the first person to post the 2017 Major League Baseball World Series Champions team name in the World Series thread. If the Chicago Cubs repeat this year as World Series Champions, the first person who posted CHICAGO CUBS in that thread is the winner... BUT... it has to be 100% UNEDITED and each person can only post ONE TEAM. If you post more than one team, any teams after the first will be ignored.

EXAMPLE: Let's say OldFatGuy posts Washington Nationals in the first post, someone else posts Houston Astros in the second post, and OldFatGuy ignores the rules and posts another team in the third post the Los Angeles Dodgers. Then later in the thread YounghThinMan happens to post Los Angeles Dodgers in his only post and it is unedited. If the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series, OldFatGuys's guess won't count because it was his second team and all users can only make ONE POST WITH ONE TEAM and it must be unedited. So YoungThinMan would have won in this case.

I am going to start the World Series Guess Thread a little later, but wanted to post this for questions regarding the rules. Ask away!!!!!

But just to repeat.... I will create a 2017 World Series Guess Thread later today. Every user can make ONE POST and guess ONE TEAM in that thread. The World Series is scheduled to be played around the end of October, and when we know the actual champions, I will then look down the 2017 World Series Guess Thread and the first person who posted that team in their FIRST, UNEDITED post wins the $50 worth of Gog games.

Good Luck

Make sense?

I
ALSO TO BE CLEAR, ANY GUESSES IN THIS THREAD DO NOT COUNT.

Plus, there will be a BONUS way to double your winnings to $100. (You'll have to wait until I create the 2017 World Series Guess Thread to see how to win DOUBLE).

Wow, super nice giveaway!

Total clueless "what do I care about American sports" newbie question: how many teams are potentially in the running, aka what's the maximum number of valid entries for this contest?

GOOD QUESTION.

I'm going to link to MLB.COM where we're entering the final week of the regular season where some info will be available plus I'll do my best to explain some stuff here. If still confused, please ask away (I understand there are lots of international folks here and want to make this as easy as I can for them too so that they have a chance. But BASEBALL is my number one sport and I'm a fanatic about it and always wanted to do some sort of a baseball giveaway here so now I'm doing it).

Anyway, there are 30 teams in Major league Baseball, divided into TWO LEAGUES (American League and National League, 15 teams each. Each League is further divided into THREE DIVISIONS with 5 teams each) The regular season ends next Sunday and 5 teams from each league will qualify for the Post Season (and a chance to win the World Series). The winner of each of the 3 divisions in each league plus the next two best records all qualify for the Post Season. This hasn't been entirely settled yet, but as of the last time I checked the following teams had qualified for the post season:

American League:
Boston Red Sox
New York Yankees
Cleveland Indians
Houston Astros

with the 5th spot still undecided but with the Minnesota Twins having a good edge on getting that last AL spot.

In the National League
Washington Nationals
Los Angeles Dodgers
are the only two clinched (I think)

The Chicago Cubs are close to clinching a playoff (or maybe already have you can look on mlb.com at the STANDINGS PAGE and it will show who has clinched what)
and the Arizona Diamondbacks are most likely going to clinch as well.

The fifth NL playoff spot is a close race between the Colorado Rockies, the Milwuakee Brewers, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Each league will proceed through playoffs and decide an American League Champion and a National League Champion and then those two League Champions will meet in the 2017 World Series to determine the World Series champion (and yes, it's typical American hubris to call it "World Series"... sorry)

Hope this helps.

WRONG!!!

There are 15 teams in Major League Baseball.

The AL is not Major League. They haven't been since 1973.

LOL, Man do I agree with that sentiment. There is no DH IN BASEBALL. Nine guys are supposed to play nine guys dammit!!!!

I wholeheartedly support that sentiment... but.. for the giveaway, guess I'll have to go with the reality... even though it is wrong. LOL

XD I got my point across, and I appreciate the sentiment, so I will leave.

Very nice GA/Thread and I wish you nothing but the best. I will interfere no more. :D

OK, I'm clueless. Only reference I can find is that in 1973 concerning the America League, they started the designated hitter rule.

Care to explain?

edit: Never mind. I see the reference up above.

No, I have enough. Let someone more deserving has a try. I'm good.

Forever baseball was a game of 9 guys against 9 guys. You can play those guys anywhere in the field you want to when you play the field, and when it's your teams turn to bat all 9 of them must bat. That's what baseball is.

But in 1973 the American League decided to add a "10th" man, a guy who never, EVER plays in the field. He only bats. And he bats for one of the 9 guys in the field (the pitcher) who no longer bats).

And I hate it.

Thanks for all the info! :) So basically there's going to be 10 teams who could potentially win, but there's still several teams in the running for 4 of those 10 slots, meaning that there's really 16-18 slots or thereabouts in your giveaway. Pretty good odds if you're fast enough with a reply - so now I'm hoping that "a little later" will be well before my bedtime. :)

Do you have a favorite team (and are they in the running?) - or do you chiefly love the sport in general, without caring too much about one particular team?

I remember once upon a time owning a Cleveland Indians t-shirt, brought back by my father from a trip to Cleveland. I guess that's going to be my pick if no one beats me to it. :D

gogtrial34987: Do you have a favorite team (and are they in the running?) -
Yes, I very, very much do. And therein lies the way toward the way to double your winnings as I mentioned in the OP. (Will explain when I create the thread, which I am going to do at approximately 5:00PM EDT (USA) (About 35 minutes from now).
Dang. Them's some massive winnings and quite a competition method. I'll like it.
If you win, are you allowed to do whatever you want with what you get? In other words, I'm assuming you can't be in for other people, but do you care if all the games asked for are being redeemed by the winner, or can the winner buy gifts?
