We don't do it because we're decent people, but as you can tell by looking at the history of any city that has a drastic increase in population, the more people arrive, the more the crime rate goes up. WE might not pirate, but that's no guarantee that somebody else won't. Or that somebody who doesn't even use the forum isn't doing it already.
I've gone over every post in the is thread twice and I don't see one Steam Fanboy in here.

DRM-free is the main reason I came here, as many of you have as well - I imagine. We indeed are a niche market - but that's exactly what GOG wants to cater to, being who they are - as gamers. As long as that idea lives and guides their decisions in the future, we need not worry about Steam.
As long as we stand together as a community and advocate DRM-free for what it is, GOG will continue to grow.

In fact, I'd have to say that if you think one guy pointing out a weakness of GOG and another guy debunking a supposed weakness of Steam are being Steam fanboys, then you're actually the GOG fanboy since you dislike seeing anything negative said about GOG or anything positive said about Steam, no matter how weak these positives or negatives are.
I hope this doesn't come across as rude or accusatory, but seriously, if you can't take something nice said about a place you hate or something bad said about a place you love, don't enter a discussion. You only ever get the spread of ideas through dissenting opinions.
Again, I hate to be the pessimist, but realistically, I really, really doubt that.

Oh, I think Steam DOES care for its users. But I also think they're trying to shape the marketplace and the process of buying and "owning" games, and doing so to work things out in their favor. Some of the things they're doing seem like they're trying to make PC games more like console games: auto-updates, SteamBox, Big Picture, etc.
And I think there is a large portion of the buying public who will either embrace those things or at least have no problems accepting them.
Other than that, I agree with Smannesman in post 6. gOg do compete with Steam, and they do it by not copying Steam. A ~10% market share does not mean that gOg are not successful in what they are doing.

Now, perhaps somebody can enlighten me on this, because I'm not sure how the numbers play out:
How does the console market compare to the PC market in terms of profitability?
Or pretty much any thread created by catpower1980. I've seen at least two of his so far get closed, and that's just since I've been here.

They are. As last resort, there is always cheap Steam activation about 1.5-2$ for single play.

Yes, VAC makes mistakes. Once in a blue moon, and they tend to get reversed fairly fast when they happen (since those mistakes rarely only affect a couple of people). Most of the time, it does exactly what it's supposed to. Detect specific known cheat signatures/hooks running on your computer while you're on a VAC enabled server, and banning you for it at some random point after it caught you.
What does happen all the time is VAC banned cheaters pretending to be clueless about why they got banned.

And on top of that, the Witcher games can arguably be considered outliers in the data because the games were made by a company with a DRM-free stance, meaning that of course a good deal of them, possibly even a majority, are going to be bought on DRM-free platforms.
Even if it works, the frequency is no doubt less, and the likeliness of getting caught is higher, I imagine. It's still got to be easier to accomplish it without DRM than it is WITH DRM.

"I used to be a Steam fan but now im trying to stay away from it"
Some steamers (I say steamers, not troll) come here all fanboying that no, no steam never have been abusive, no, no... This is all wrong, hear me !
Do I need to come around the net with all cases related to steam heavy handed moderation or ban abuse ?
I don't care if he is saying the truth or not. I don't know anything about that sh*t, and the dude being most likely a AAA fanboy, he has very little chance of coming back here, this is totally moot.
And discussing the merits of both stores ? Related to multiplayer games ? On GOG ?
LOL

I think it's possible. The guys who head up CDP are brilliant entrepreneurs. It might take 5-7 years but digital distribution is young. Look how much Steam itself has changed over the years.
