Hello!

The Wii and Wii U are getting physical ports of Shakedown Hawaii.

"That was a typo. He actually meant some other current gen platform"

No. It really is the Wii and Wii U. I am pleasantly surprised...and a also little confused. The release it set for Thursday, July 9th. The price is $30.00 USD. The article I got this from shows the price in USD, but the release is restricted to EU. There's a limit of 3000 copies.

I think it would be nice if older consoles got releases more often, but I understand it's not something that's financially viable.

The irony is some of the features of the current Nintendo are retarded compared to the older consoles.

I'd like to welcome you to the world where people release physical versions of new games programmed for systems like the Commodore 64 in the 21st century

Pier Solar, a western rpg with strong jrpg influences, started as a kickstarter to produce a physical sega genesis game in the 2010s. The game's alright, nothing special, but community projects like these warm my heart imo.
You can get the game on Steam too, but that version came out after the Genesis cart was made.

Why bother with Steam when you can get it here:

Looks like Chrono Cross. The fact it was released for the Genesis makes me think it would be more like Phantasy Star. Think I'll get it one day. Thanks!

Thanks for bringing that up. I didn't know that releases for older platforms were more common.

Edit: sorry if my text sounds weird. I just came in from the scorching 30 degree heat.

By the way, how come nobody has mentioned Tanglewood?

Granted, it seems to have been developed by a Big Evil Corporation, so maybe it's best to stay away. But then again...

(It appears that there hasn't yet been a phyiscal release, but there's a place you can pre-order it if you want one.)
And still no GOG version. :(

Also to the Sega Dreamcast! ^_^
So hang on a tic.

A system long dead and it's gravebound younger brother are getting a port...for what reason? The game didn't even start development back when the systems were relevant.

And yet physical copies are being pressed for these systems.

Why?

Sure, I get that people are still pressing games for the C64 and such, those are at least efforts of great undertaking given the limitations of their respective platforms.

Because of that good old quote by Brian Eno
“Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.”
Wii U also got Finding Teddy 2 and Shmup Collection I think last month. Also just for Europe. Which is a shame cause I'd like to play Shmup Collection.

And I'm sure Wii will get Just Dance 2021 later this year.

Right, but the thing is, there's nothing being pushed to the limits on the Wi/Wii-U, nor do I really see anyone really jumping to get their Wii/Wiii-U out of mothballs.
I own a Switch and have not really used it for much more than to play old DQ games and Daemon X Machina (brilliant game barring the final stupid level). There are a ton of things about the system I am very unfond of and none of them are really to blame on the Lite I own (the normal system is actually worse for me in a lot of ways) whereas I still use my Wii U with an amount of regularity. Hopefully Nintendo unscrews the NNID issues they've had lately since with my Wii my Wii U is one of my favorite consoles.
