timppu: Now read carefully. The reason they killed GOG Downloader is because it is a totally obsolete piece of software that doesn't serve any purpose whatsoever anymore. Using ANY resources on an obsolete application is a total waste. This is the way software companies work, they do not support and keep old obsolete software products on life support forever, no matter if there are still a few people who'd like to continue using it.
Absolute nonsense. Ask him what his expertise is, to keep repeating this silly stuff.

Just ignore this sort of crap, he has no idea.

Now, more importantly ......

I love GOG, or at least what they stand for or did stand for.

But things to me seem to be getting sadder and sadder.

Look at this latest freebie ... just as illuminating as the first in this current sale ... for those that have the wit to see anyway.

They have the appearance of a great seeming freebie, until you look more closely.

Yes I grabbed this latest one, but then I am a bit of an artwork and soundtrack junkie. How many others here are like that?

I only have one of the games, and those 3 wallpapers came with it.

I'm not saying I don't appreciate the freebie, as I do ... unless I find what I got isn't very good.

I just wonder what they were thinking. Just seems a marketing exercise to me, to seem to look good, but no real substance for most people, and clearly #1 probably means we will get more ... which is okay by me, if I don't have the games.

This is not about me complaining because I feel we got something weak for free (I appreciated it regardless). It is about what that likely means, and it saddens me greatly. And it hasn't happened in isolation, and it is not just about the fate of the GOG Downloader either, which is equally troubling. Other things have been happening here for a while, as many have noted.

One of those, is the special discount emails I keep getting. Very few have been different to the price in past sales, some not as cheap. I could talk about the new refund policy, which is great ... but which is another indicator. Yes there are some great discounted games in the current sale, cheaper than my records show. But my records show that prices regular or sale, have generally gone up. So it feels like a hint of desperation is going on. I am only guessing of course, but following the dots right now worries me greatly, as I have made a big investment in GOG.

Sad days, and I just wish they would be open with us.

^This. But they grew and the marketing people took over and forbade the open communication that used to be a feature of GOG, when they were still small and customer friendly. Unfortunately this seems to be the way of successful corporations. Even if some company starts out idealistic, as soon as they grow beyond a certain point stock holders and the numbers relevant to them become more important than customers.

So we can just move on to greener pastures.

Where would that be? GOG's greatness for me is that it is the only store selling big (by my standards/tastes) DRM-free releases. Other sites are either much smaller in terms of big releases or geared to smaller indie games not as much my style.
