Is there a clear advantage or something? i'm not trying to be salty or anything, it's only a doubt I have.
I would appriciate if anyone answers, sorry if I come as ignorant. Also English is not my first lenguage so yeah, mistakes could've been made.

P.D.: By retro games I refer to games like Quake, Carmaggedon, Unreal Tournament 2004, Metal Slug, Dungeon Keeper, etc.

Time vs Money. If you have the time to set them up and configure them yourself, no need to buy them again.. If the time you'll need to spend is worth more (to you) than the game's price, it makes sense to buy them instead.
The above assumes you already have a valid license for the games of course. If you don't own the games yet, buying them would give you a valid license, which is a reason by itself.
I torrent games. Usually it's to see if I can play them as I have physical issues and want to see if can actually play something before I drop the cash.

If there is an issue, I usually fire off a polite detailed email explaining the issue but more often than not, it either gets ignored or I get something distasteful back.

For me it's an ethics issue.

Having said that, there is one game on my laptop that I play and it;s pirated and I have no intention of paying for. That's because it's on Steam only and I'm on networks that don't allow me to access their DRM servers. That publisher which say remain nameless responded with one of them nasty emails when I asked if there was an alternative so that I could pay and be legit.

edit: Oh and if the person who normally comes by with the "You lie, You can reach the Steam servers. I don;t understand why you can't." don't bother. The ports are blocked even though you don;t believe me. I;ve tried.

Ukelleler: Why should i buy retro games here instead of emulating?
I believe the word you're looking for there is pirating. Many games sold here are emulated, but they're not pirated.

Huh? Why? I thought he meant emulating games he owns.
In my case, I mostly play older games. I remember the last time I installed Colonization by myself I spent over an hour just getting the sound to work. When I bought it in GOG, it was a matter of double-clicking an icon and everything was ready to play. I think my time is worth the couple of euros I payed -and so is the game.

And you are supporting a store that sells DRM-free games. For some people that's enough.

There is. For me:

1. No need to keep game copies on your HDD freeing space for storing something else you want/ You can just download them from GOG server anytime you want.
2. No need to fear for viruses/miners from downloaded torrent.
3. Updates and support in case technical problems.

This is not uncommon. I have same problem with Uplay servers.

On point 1 there, you miss one of the big benefits of gog, once you download you have no future requirements. If you rely on the store to hold your games, your relying on internet and store both being available. With storage drives becoming cheaper all the time, it makes sense to store your product yourself under your control totally - this is what drm free stands for.

First time I mentioned it, a few folks went off. The library we have here thinks Beetle Bailey and Zits are sex/ porn sites.

Well, you can do this with torrent game too. I tried to make list why GOG games is better than pirated ones or from stores like Steam. But you are right, so the full list should look like this:

1. No need to keep game copies on your HDD freeing space for storing something else you want/ You can just download them from GOG server anytime you want.
2. If you still want, you can download and store your copy of the game because GOG have no DRM. You won't need a crack for it.
3. No need to fear for viruses/miners from downloaded torrent.
4. Updates and support in case technical problems.

They went off because Steam is not as ideal as they think?!

Well either way, the games they might emulate would be emulated here so it's still not a good comparison.
