It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

It's not like I really care, but it does seem a little unprofessional-like, plus YT is blocked on the internet where many people work, so you can't check out new gog games at work.
Video hosting is surprisingly hard and most of the alternatives look even less professional. Not to mention, this is probably so GOG can occasionally circulate into video ads.
Videos take up a lot of storage space and a long of bandwidth when you stream them. Why reinvent the wheel when someone is already doing it better than you ever could? I mean, GOG did try to build its own forum and we all know hoe that turned out. (For the record I am not attacking them here, I think they absolutely did the right thing by not hosting their own videos.)

Also, I've never heard of a place that blocks YouTube. If the company you work for does, you may possibly need to take a long hard look at your life decisions and reevaluate your choice of employer. =)

I'm only half joking.

This, plus, doesn't even Youtube.com keep making losses year after year, IIRC? I always thought they get oodles of money from all those advertisements, but maybe they are not enough to cover the expenses for keeping a free streaming video service that people heavily use. So maybe Youtube (let alone less popular video streaming/hosting sites) isn't quite such a goldmine I always thought it is?

At least for me it always made lots of sense GOG uses Youtube for the game videos.
1) Cutting down costs by moving some streaming traffic to Youtube servers.

2) Free advertising. There are millions of Youtube users. If few of them take note of a Youtube user "GOG.com", and actually visit the site, it alone makes it a good choice.

3) Standard video format. Now in some cases Youtube may be blocked, yes. But on the other hand, if Youtube is working for other purposes, then it's also working for GOG videos. Hosting videos otherwise might in some cases make them available where Youtube is blocked, but in some cases cause videos not to play for some users.

4) Hypothetically GOG could use Youtube as a channel for certain "push" kind of messages, for instance they could create videos to promote sales and such, and people who subscribe to their Youtube channel could get notifications of those. Now I don't think GOG does that (then again I don't know, as I don't subscribe them), but at least that is an option they have.
I think the better question is, why is there basically no competition to video hosting for Youtube?

If you can't watch youtube at work, I'm certain they won't approve of you looking at games at work. Maybe don't look at games at work..?

Hell yes. Tried it once about 5 years ago and told my clients to use YouTube.

And a bad one at that. Name calling will get you no where when you give horrible examples for your hypothetical.

??

Having said that, there are video hosts who host videos for corporations, both private and public. Having looked at the youtube view numbers for some of gog's video, not sure if they would be large enough for what they do.
