When i was a kid, my cousin used to play a certain game i liked a lot. He gave it to me when he left for college and couldn't play that many video games anymore. That game was a pirated copy burned on a disc.

I liked the game so much that recently, after so many years, i bought a legit copy of the game on Steam.

If my cousin never pirated the game, i would not have played it in all likelihood. But since i did play the pirate copy, i decided to buy a legit one many years later. So one way or another, the publisher got their money.

Unfortunately, i think the legit copy does have DRM, otherwise it would have been released on GOG. But anyway, this shows the whole argument of 'DRM helps us stop the loss of profit' is silly. Without my cousin giving me a pirated copy and sparking my interest in the game, they would never have made any money. My cousin probably would not have purchased it, and i would never have learned of the game.
My brother bought me Witcher 2, years ago. Boxed version, nice and shiny. I was so happy, even knowing it was few years after its release and everyone else played already.

I had a stance in a past past, that I only do play games 18+ I mean 18 years+ old a game :D but not any more

anyway, unfortunately it has a drm and Region Restrictions as well !

When I came back to UK from my trip it turned out that I cannot do anything with this game, I could not play it, give it (who would want it when it was unplayable), exchange it (to far from the shop), I could not throw it away (gift), ....finally I gave it away to right hands finding internal peace and bought a copy here : )

but no happy ending, I have never played Witcher 2 more than few minutes because of d above,

drm killed my fun, destroyed a gift and created lot of stress
I`m learning quick, no more drm-games unless for tests or to fix.

Kill drm,
Save fun!

Witcher 3 had DRM. Wouldn't let me install it without first installing Galaxy. Refusing closed the installation program each time. Then it wouldn't run without a day one patch. Kind of makes having it on disc utterly pointless.

If you bought a game on steam years after you played it as kids, it's very unlikely that any of the (much lower amount of money) made it to the original creators.
